PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Paul Silva (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ivan Grozny (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Silva comes to the cage accompanied by young folks. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Elvis Blanc and Steve Smith.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Grozny instigates a clinch.
Grozny has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Silva is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Silva manages to break the clinch.

Silva jumps guard but Grozny stands there with Silva around his waist. Silva gives up and drops back to his feet. We remain in the clinch.

Silva ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Silva no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Grozny drops to a knee looking for a takedown but Silva gets the underhooks and prevents it.
Grozny wants to get back to striking at distance but Silva won't allow it.
The pace really dropping off here, momentarily.
Grozny tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Silva just stands there and leans against the cage.

Silva breaks the clinch and we're back to striking at distance.
Silva shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Grozny as he jumps to the side.
Grozny moves in looking to clinch but Silva pushes him off.

Silva clinches up with Grozny and pushes him back against the cage.
Silva tries to stall but Grozny uses the opportunity to gain a better position.
Grozny fails to pull the fight into his guard.
Grozny tries to jump guard but he falls flat on his backside. Silva smiles and moves away.

Grozny shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.

Grozny wants to control the pace but Silva is squirming around nicely.
Silva manages to regain half guard. Good work.

Silva gets full guard.
Silva lands a beautiful switch and he's in full mount! That could spell trouble for Grozny!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
BOOM! Silva connects with a massive shot to the dome!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Grozny wants to hold on but Silva pushes him away.
Silva tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Grozny in a bad spot here, taking shots to the head.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Silva's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.

Silva on the receiving end of a decent leg kick there by Grozny. Grozny obviously looking to wear him down.
Silva tries for a takedown but Grozny circles away easily

so Grozny counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Silva has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.
Silva is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Paul Silva overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.
Still in half guard, Silva seems content to control.
Grozny really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Silva. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Silva is working hard to pass the guard. He's done it - he's now in full mount! Trouble for Grozny!

Silva looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Grozny can do anything to dispel that myth.

Silva has the hooks sunk in and you can see the will to fight slowly draining out of Grozny's body.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Grozny trying to control but he's just got himself in more trouble.
Grozny can't escape the position.

Silva has the hooks in and he's looking for a rear naked choke here. Grozny is defending well but eventually Silva manages to get an arm under the chin and he's locked on the RNC! Grozny has no choice but to tap now! He does! This one is all over!
