PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Trey Dakota (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Rick Diaz (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the welterweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dakota misses with a series of wild punches.
Dakota throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Diaz fails to land the takedown.

Diaz shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Diaz showed some decent athleticism there.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Diaz works his foot free and advances to mount.

Diaz working for a guillotine from mount but Dakota is in no mood to give up.

Dakota is wriggling around trying to escape.

Diaz jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Dakota manages to avoid the submission attempt.
Dakota prevents Diaz from moving into mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dakota parries the strikes from Diaz easily there. Diaz is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Dakota to escape.
Diaz in side control, throwing shots but Dakota defends.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Diaz tries to move to mount but Dakota blocks the move with his legs.
Diaz working the ground and pound but he's contacting the mat, not the fighter.

Dakota parries the strikes from Diaz easily there. Diaz is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Dakota to escape.
Diaz tries to advance to mount but can't.
Dakota tries to buck Diaz off but Diaz is having none of it.

Diaz is trying to get an arm triangle but Dakota is defending well.
Dakota sneaks back into half guard.

Diaz frees up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
Dakota taking shots to the head.
Diaz unloads with some shots from mount but Dakota bucks and avoids them well.
Dakota avoids a series of strikes thrown by Diaz.
Dakota wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Diaz.
Dakota really trying hard to get back to half guard here.

Diaz looking to secure an arm triangle but Dakota defends it well.

Diaz scoring with strikes but Dakota is staying in there.

Diaz jumps to side control looking for an arm triangle but Dakota manages to avoid the submission attempt.

Diaz is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Dakota knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Dakota gives up the full mount - oops, sloppy defensive grappling there!

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Diaz avoids the body shot from Dakota.
Dakota throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped

and Diaz counters with a shoot takedown. Dakota fights it but they end up in guard.
Diaz trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Diaz passes easily into side control. Nice work.
The ground and pound from Diaz seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.
Dakota really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Diaz has knee on belly and moves into mount.

Diaz looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.
Diaz misses with a series of strikes from mount. He'll no doubt be working on his ground and pound when he gets back to the gym.

Dakota is in a horrible position here, under a barrage of strikes, he's managing to avoid any damage.
Dakota can't escape the position.
Diaz throws a strike there. Dakota manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.

Diaz seems to be working for a kimura but Dakota defends the submission attempt.

Diaz tries to pass to full mount but Dakota defends it.
Diaz works his way into side control.

Diaz looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Diaz swings around for an armbar but Dakota sees it coming a mile off and turns beautifully into Diaz's guard.
Diaz wants to sweep here but Dakota controlling him for the moment.

Diaz doesn't do any damage with a couple of strikes from the bottom.

Dakota avoids a guillotine attempt easily.
Dakota wants to control from the top but Diaz keeps moving.

Diaz is working actively off his back, looking to secure an arm or perhaps work for a triangle.
Rick Diaz has got the better of the ground game so far.
Diaz tries to land a sweep but no joy.

There's a bit of a scramble here and now Diaz is on top in guard.
Dakota controls Diaz momentarily but Diaz frees himself.
Diaz throwing strikes but missing.
Diaz is looking to advance position but Dakota has hit a scissor sweep - now he's on top in mount!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Diaz is looking to improve his position but Dakota isn't that keen on the idea.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Rick Diaz showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's time! Dakota's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


The fight stays on the outside here - Diaz looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dakota as he avoids it easily.
Diaz closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Dakota jabs Diaz to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Dakota scores with a hook to the body. Diaz takes a step back and tries to catch his breath.
Diaz works Dakota's body with a nice hook.
Diaz uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Dakota.
Dakota lands a jab to Diaz's midsection.

Dakota throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Diaz stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Diaz takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Diaz fails with a takedown attempt.
Dakota is looking to wear down Diaz with body shots, infact he's throwing more body shots than head shots at the moment.
Diaz shoots for a takedown but Dakota saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Trey Dakota has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Rick Diaz.
Dakota lands with an uppercut that bounces Diaz off the cage and back into rage.
Dakota fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Diaz has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Dakota lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.
A left lands for Dakota.


It looks like Rick Diaz has been cut.
Dakota misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Diaz.

Diaz takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Diaz looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Dakota is fending him off so far but Diaz persists. Nope, Dakota circles away and we're back to standing.
Diaz shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Dakota as he avoids it easily.
Dakota ducks low and lands a nice hook to the body of his opponent.
Diaz misses with a takedown attempt
and Dakota counters with a nice uppercut.
Dakota throws a shot to the body.
Diaz closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Dakota stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Dakota wants it to stay on the feet.
Dakota fakes a head punch and goes low to the body. Nicely done.

Dakota cracks Diaz with a good jab.
Dakota throws a body punch but Diaz moves out of range.
Dakota scores with a jab to the jaw.
Diaz takes a shot right to the bread basket.
Dakota throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.


Diaz is rocked!
Diaz gets clipped by a big right hand and goes down spinning to the canvas! Dakota gets the back mount and begins to drop bombs on his rocked foe! Diaz is too out of it to defend against the strikes and the referee jumps in to save him from the beatdown!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:42 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Trey Dakota!
