Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jack Knight (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Habib Arellano (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jack Knight has the better chin. Will he look to stand and bang today?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Jack Knight!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 7 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Habib Arellano!
The judges for this bout are Seu Braga, Felipe Paraventi and Luis Engracia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Knight throws the kick towards the body but Arellano avoids it.

Knight drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Knight wants to control but Arellano is keeping him busy.
Arellano is looking to regain half guard here but Knight keeps moving and retains side control.
Arellano is not content to let Knight control the position.
Arellano manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.

Knight is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so Arellano is just riding it out for now. Knight eventually gives up the hold.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Knight seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Arellano does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.

Arellano feints and as Knight raises his hands in defense, Arellano changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Arellano won't allow Knight to sweep him here.
Arellano works over Knight with some ground and pound from guard.
Arellano wants to stand but Knight has a closed guard, so he can't escape.
Knight is trying to keep Arellano in close.

Arellano wants to pass the guard but Knight is keeping the position.
Arellano tries to stand but Knight is controlling from the bottom.
Knight pulls Arellano in close to his closed guard and prevents Arellano from doing any damage or advancing position.
The fighters are starting to perspire pretty heavily.
Arellano stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Knight swivels though and keeps the full guard.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.

and Arellano counters with a left to the body.

and Knight counters with a nice double leg into guard.

Knight wants to control from the top but Arellano keeps moving.

Knight passes Arellano's left leg - he's now in half guard.
Arellano is staying active underneath Knight, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Knight moves nicely into side control.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
Knight is trying to ground and pound but Arellano uses the momentary lack of control by Knight to regain half guard.
Arellano is staying active underneath Knight, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Knight is looking to stand up but he'll have to free his leg first. Instead, Arellano manages to get to full guard.
Knight postures up.
Knight postures up and scores with a shot to the body and a follow up elbow to the head.

Knight decides to stand back up.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The minute break is over - no more time for sponges and pep talks - back to the action!


Arellano with a poor takedown

and Knight counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Knight connects with a nice short shot to Arellano's temple.

Knight decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.

Knight closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Knight lands in his opponent's guard.
Arellano wants to sweep here but Knight controlling him for the moment.
Knight trying to control but Arellano is working from the bottom.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Arellano throwing some rather feeble looking strikes off his back.

Knight stands and steps away. Arellano gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Arellano misses with a takedown attempt

and Knight counters with a shoot takedown. Arellano fights it but they end up in guard.
Knight looking to sit in guard and control but Arellano gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Knight is looking for a triangle but Arellano pushes his legs off easily.

Arellano decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for leaving it all in the cage!
Knight takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
Knight cracks Arellano with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Arellano takes a big shot to the head but keeps on trying to improve his position.
Knight with shots to the head and body - Arellano looks very uncomfortable down there.

Arellano sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Knight is tying to control. Arellano wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Knight is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Arellano doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Knight.

Arellano has one foot on Knight's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.

Knight feints and as Arellano raises his hands in defense, Knight changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.

Knight drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Arellano dives on top into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Knight working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Arellano doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Arellano manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Arellano is looking to work some ground and pound but Knight has wrist control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Knight's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Arellano is refusing to be controlled, as Knight sits in half guard.
Knight is really struggling to control Arellano but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Arellano is trying to stand up here but Knight is controlling him well.
Arellano won't allow Knight to pass to mount.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Knight lands a nice short elbow.
Arellano wants to get back to full guard.

Arellano kicks Knight off and gets back to his feet.
Knight fails with the takedown

and Arellano decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Knight's guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Knight is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Arellano wanted to stand there but Knight had control of the position.

Knight is trying to control the position from the bottom.

Arellano has gone for a leg lock! Knight slips out almost immediately though and dives into Arellano's guard.

Knight connects with a couple of short punches.

Knight drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Arellano manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Knight has Arellano in his guard.
Knight manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Knight swings around for an armbar but it's a sloppy attempt and Arellano is now in Knight's guard. A big mistake from Knight there, giving up the dominant position!

Habib Arellano has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Knight is standing up out of mount! Strange tactic there - he must really want this one on the feet!

That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jack Knight. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Knight tries to clinch there but Arellano circles away.

Knight feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Knight thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Arellano manages to work his way to half guard, despite Knight's best efforts.

Knight stands, ready to strike. The ref makes him back up and allows Arellano to get to his feet.

Knight shoots in but no luck this time.

Knight shoots in and bounces Arellano off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Knight wants to control from the top but Arellano keeps moving.

And that's the end of the fight!
Jack Knight showed his dominance in that final round.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Knight, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
