The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Smithy misses with a head kick.
Smithy throws a low kick but it's checked well by Birmiski.
Timmy Smithy seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Birmiski tries to bum rush Smithy with a series of wild strikes but Smithy uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Smithy tries to close the distance and clinch but Birmiski swats him to one side with an open hand palm strike and circles away.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Smithy throws an elbow but it's blocked.
Smithy lands an elbow that stopped Birmiski in his tracks for a moment.
Birmiski blocks the elbow strike.
Smithy misses with some punches.
Smithy tries a body shot but Birmiski blocks it.
Smithy throws an elbow that misses.

Birmiski escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Horrible takedown by Birmiski or perhaps it was just good defense by Smithy which made him look bad.
Birmiski avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smithy looking to throw a kick but he's pulled out of it.
A head kick misses from Smithy.
Birmiski misses the shot to the body.
Birmiski fails with a takedown attempt.
Smithy pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.
Smithy lands a nice looking kick to the body. Birmiski takes a step back to recover.

Smithy works Birmiski's body with a nice hook.
Smithy throws out a leg kick but Birmiski moves out of range and Smithy only half commits.
Smithy moves out of range as Birmiski strikes.
Smithy looks to throw the jab but Birmiski is out of range.
Smithy tries to score with a leg kick but it misses it's target.
Birmiski takes a kick to the side of the head.
Smithy swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Birmiski misses with a low kick as Smithy jumps back.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Smithy throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Birmiski throws the left hand but Smithy avoids the punch easily.
Birmiski thows a leg kick but Smithy checks it
and Smithy makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Birmiski really felt that one!
Smithy misses with a kick to the body.
Birmiski works the jab nicely.
Smithy misses with a low kick.
Smithy throws a leg kick but Birmiski checks it.

Birmiski closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Smithy is not content to let Birmiski control the position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Birmiski trying to mount his opponent but Smithy defends it.
Birmiski will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Birmiski maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Smithy could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Birmiski has cracked it and Smithy is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Birmiski!
