PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Quentin John (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Jimmy Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I can't wait for this one - let's get the fighter introductions out of the way and get this one started!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 12 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Quentin John!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jimmy Jones!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A looping hook to the body misses from John. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
John throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
John throws a hook to the side of Jones's head but Jones sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
John misses with a combination
and Jones counters with a three punch combo that has John backing up. John nods at Jones to acknowledge the strikes.
A looping hook to the body misses from John. Jones does a little dance to reset his feet.
Jones cracks John with an open hand slap.
John fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
Jones lands with a straight right. John didn't see that one coming.

Jones shoots in and gets a takedown into John's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Jones controlling from the top position.
John manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

John wants to control the pace but Jones is squirming around nicely.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

Jones is looking to improve his position but John isn't that keen on the idea.
John trying to control but Jones is having none of it.
Jones wants to get back to his feet.

John tries to control but Jones wriggling away.
John is really struggling to control Jones but he's trying to hold on to the position.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Quentin John.

John tries to bum rush Jones with a series of wild strikes but Jones uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
John wings a very wild body shot but it does the job and lands to the midsection.
John throws a nice looking combination but Jones bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
John tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Jones was well out of range. Poor timing from John.
John takes a swing at Jones's ribcage but misses.
Jones shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

and Jones counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
John shuffles to his left behind two crisp jabs. Jones eats them both and turns towards John to reposition himself and eats a stinging right hand-left hook combo.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Jones was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Jones tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Quentin John will probably get the nod.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


Jones moves into range and throws a combination. A nice jab followed by a hook to the body.

Jones cracks John with a hook to the jaw. Both fighters smile at eachother and high-five before getting back down to business.

The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Jones shoots for a double leg takedown but John sprawls well. He's pushed Jones's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.

A close second round but Jimmy Jones will probably get the nod - 10:9.

It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting John here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.
