The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Banton shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Gekko manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Banton got a little sloppy there for a moment and Gekko has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Banton has managed to get both his arms back between Gekko's legs - danger averted.

Gekko manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Banton manages to get himself to full guard.

Gekko wants to work for an arm triangle but Banton is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Banton makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Banton.
Gekko stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Banton swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Banton wants to get back to his feet but Gekko is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Banton is looking for a triangle here but Gekko uses the submission attempt to pass into side control.

Gekko is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Banton knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Banton really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Gekko. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Gekko is working Banton over with some ground and pound from side control.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Gekko creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Gekko has hold of Banton's arm here. He's working for an Americana. It looks like he might have it! Banton tries to escape but he's just digging himself in deeper - Gekko cranks the arm and Banton screams in pain! The ref makes a decision and ends the fight before the tap - no complains from Banton, who is just happy to have his arm attached to his body.
