The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Valdez gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Chapman II has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Valdez is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Chapman II prevents Valdez from getting back to his feet.
Chapman II stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Valdez swivels though and keeps the full guard.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Chapman II accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Valdez looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Valdez is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Chapman II throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Valdez works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Chapman II has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.
Valdez wants to get back to his feet but he's too absorbed in his own little project and Chapman II manages to pass to side control.

Chapman II postures up and cracks his opponent a couple of times before moving back into close ground control. Valdez looks a forlorn figure.

Chapman II pausing momentarily but resumes with a couple of decent strikes that do a bit of damage.
