PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Big Boy (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Max Castle (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Big Boy!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Max Castle!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
No joy there for Castle, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Boy shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.
Boy works his way into full mount!
Boy sitting in mount, just looking to control for the moment.
Boy looking to ground and pound his opponent to a finish here.


It looks like Max Castle has been cut.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Boy has hold of Castle's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Castle manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.
Boy controlling from mount.

Boy goes for an armbar but he's not got it… Castle turns into him and now he's in Boy's guard.
Castle throws and elbow that misses. Boy uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Castle's guard. Nice move by Boy!
Boy makes a bit of distance and scores with some ground and pound, still in guard.
Castle is trying to stand up but he's not managed so far.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Hammerfist, elbow! yells Boy's corner. There ya go! There ya go!
Castle wants to stand up but Boy is controlling him.
Boy trying to control the position from guard on top but Castle is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Boy scores with a decent looking elbow strike.
Boy throwing strikes but missing.

Boy thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Castle trying to keep a closed guard but Boy is proving a slippery customer.
Boy prevents Castle from getting back to his feet.

Boy controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.

Castle is throwing his legs up, looking for submissions. Boy is aware though and is defending well.
Castle wants to stand but Boy is controlling the position.
Boy slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Boy lands a couple of decent looking shots.
Castle keeping moving, preventing Boy from controlling successfully.

Boy tries to free his leg and advance position but Castle is retaining full guard.
Boy pushing down on Castle's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.
Boy is looking to stall here but Castle recovers full guard.
Boy trying to control but Castle is working from the bottom.
Boy postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.
Boy has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Boy passes easily into side control. Nice work.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That's time! Boy's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Boy misses with a kick to the body.
Boy circles away from the clinch attempt.
Castle slaps away a takedown attempt from Boy, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Boy fails with the takedown.

Boy gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Boy is trying to control the position but Castle postures up.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Castle wanted to stand there but Boy had control of the position.

Boy looking for a guillotine here but Castle defends easily.
Castle must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Castle pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Boy is keeping the position for now.

Boy pushes a forearm under Castle's chin to create some space. He's escaped his hips and pivoted quickly for an armbar! Can he extend the arm? Yes, Castle is tapping out! Damn, that was fast!
