The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Paavi shoots for a takedown but Carol saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Elvis Paavi seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Carol has his takedown stuffed

and Paavi counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Carol is staying active underneath Paavi, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Paavi wants to pass the guard but Carol is defending well.

Carol kicks off Paavi and gets to his feet.
Paavi lands a really nice looking cross but Carol seems unphased.
Carol shoots in looking for a takedown. Paavi tries to sprawl out of it but Carol keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Paavi manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Carol looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Carol misses with a takedown attempt - Paavi sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Paavi is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Carol can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
