PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Cookie Monster (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fedor Emelianenko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Both these guys have really solid chins. Will we see a standup war or will they both decide that a knockout is unlikely and try to win the fight elsewhere?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Cookie Monster!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fedor Emelianenko!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Ivan Kurochkin and Viktor Lagutenko.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Monster closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Monster tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
Emelianenko should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete.
Monster trying to control the position but Emelianenko is working away.
Emelianenko is letting Monster control him for a moment.
Emelianenko is not content to let Monster control the position.

Monster stands up.

That's one minute gone in the round.
A leg kick checked by Monster.
The fight stays on the outside here - Emelianenko looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Monster shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Monster was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Monster throwing sloppy strikes here. Perhaps if he tightened up his striking from such a dominant position, he'd be able to finish easier.
Monster can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Emelianenko is looking to escape.
Emelianenko throwing hammer fists to the chest of Monster. What's that going to do exactly?

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Monster goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now Emelianenko is on top in guard.
Emelianenko engaging in some classic timewasting tactics.

Monster is looking for a triangle but Emelianenko pushes his legs off easily.
Monster is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Emelianenko tries to stand but Monster is controlling from the bottom.
Emelianenko working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Emelianenko wants to control from the top but Monster keeps moving.
Monster working a defensive guard here.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Emelianenko works a leg free and moves into half guard.

Monster has one foot on Emelianenko's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Monster is breathing heavily.
Monster circles away from the clinch attempt.
Emelianenko throws a jab to the body, straight down the pipe. Boom. That sent Monster stumbling backwards but he manages to regain his composure quickly.
Emelianenko throws a series of punches but Monster moves out of range.

Emelianenko shoots in and scores a nice double leg takedown into half guard.

Emelianenko stands up from half guard.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Emelianenko misses with a jab, cross combination.
Monster throws a head kick that misses and slips in the process. He scrambles back to his feet and the fighters circle.
Emelianenko fails in his attempt to clinch.

Emelianenko decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Emelianenko seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Monster does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Emelianenko maintaining the dominant position here and is working for a kimura. He's locked it up! Monster could be in real trouble here! He's trying to wriggle out but Emelianenko has cracked it and Monster is screaming in pain - he's tapped out! Great finish by Emelianenko!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Fedor Emelianenko!
