PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Tone Galov (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ken OBrian (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Tone Galov!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Ken OBrian!
The judges for this bout are Paul Aken, Patrick Alders and Aafke Stam.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Galov doesn't succeed with the takedown
and OBrian counters with a head kick.

OBrian fakes an overhand right and shoots for a takedown. Galov sprawls well initially but OBrian persists and gets the takedown into half guard.

OBrian is figuring out what he wants to do next.

OBrian seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Galov does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
Galov lands a straight punch to the body, keeping OBrian at a distance.

and OBrian counters with a shoot takedown. Galov fights it but they end up in guard.

OBrian wants to get up but he can't break Galov's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.

Galov is refusing to be controlled, as OBrian sits in half guard.

OBrian looking for an armbar but decides to keep the dominant position instead.

OBrian lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Galov tries to hold on but OBrian pushes him away.
Galov is desperately trying to get back to half guard.

OBrian is standing up, even though he is in mount.
Galov closes the distance looking to clinch
and OBrian counters with a low kick, right behind Galov 's knee.
Galov is breathing heavily.

OBrian clinches with his opponent.
Galov is trying to work for a single leg takedown but OBrian pulls him back up using the underhooks.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Tone Galov. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Galov fails to pull guard.

Galov pushes off and circles away, back to the middle of the mat.
Galov misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Galov moves to clinch but OBrian breaks away

and OBrian counters with a nice double leg into side control. Galov won't be happy with that.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

OBrian tries for a kimura. Not really close to a finish though.
Galov is looking to regain half guard here but OBrian keeps moving and retains side control.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken OBrian dominated that round.
The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


No luck with that takedown attempt from OBrian.
A low kick from Galov is predictable there

and OBrian counters with a takedown into side control.

Galov is trying to get back to his feet.

OBrian is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Galov knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
OBrian wants to control but Galov is keeping him busy.

Galov is looking to get back to his feet here but OBrian is keeping cool and he's managed to take Galov's back.

Galov staying busy and making it hard for OBrian to control.
Galov is really stuck here.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
OBrian is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
OBrian controlling well, preventing Galov from escaping the position.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

I really don't envy Galov right now.
Galov trying to get back to his feet but OBrian is in full control for now.

OBrian is working for the rear naked choke. He has one arm under the chin but Galov has hold of the other arm. A bit of a stalemate here.
OBrian wants to control but Galov is keeping busy.

Galov rolls and manages to get back to half guard. Nicely done.
OBrian prevents Galov from improving his position.
Galov regains full guard. Nicely done.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Galov managing to control the position.
Galov bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in OBrian's guard.

OBrian manages to escape and get back to his feet.
Galov throws a lazy head kick
and OBrian counters with a nice body kick.
OBrian takes a head kick and shrugs it off.
Tone Galov seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Galov tries to clinch up but OBrian circles away and keeps his distance.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ken OBrian showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action. This is the final round!

OBrian decides to pull guard.
OBrian controls Galov momentarily but Galov frees himself.
We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.

Galov stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. OBrian swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Galov accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.

Galov tries to take the fight to the ground by pulling guard but can't manage it.

OBrian takes a nasty kick to the mid section... That should keep him thinking. Does he try and block and risk a head kick landing?

OBrian looks to land a body kick but Galov moved away.
OBrian misses with a two punch combination.
Galov looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? OBrian is fending him off so far but Galov persists. Nope, OBrian circles away and we're back to standing.

OBrian is looking to work some ground and pound but Galov has wrist control.

Ken OBrian comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well OBrian has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
