PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Germone Simpson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Brick Tamlin (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 7 - 0, fighting out of New York, Germone Simpson!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 4 - 0, fighting out of New York, Brick Tamlin!
The judges for this bout are Bruno Lombardi, Anthony Taglia and John Kavanagh.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Simpson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
A left and a right from Simpson both land. Nice combination.
Simpson listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
A combination from Simpson does no damage.

The fight moves into the clinch position.
Tamlin dictating the pace here, as the fighters clinch against the cage.
Simpson working hard to break the clinch.
Tamlin keeps the fight in the clinch, despite Simpson's efforts to push away.
Simpson tries to break the clinch but Tamlin is controlling the position.
Simpson looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Simpson tries to circle away but Tamlin has him pinned against the cage.

Tamlin has hold of one of Simpson's legs. Simpson is fighting the takedown attempt but Tamlin gets the trip and lands the takedown into guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Tamlin throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Simpson works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Tamlin throws a strike but Simpson rolls with it and manages to sweep. Now he's in guard on top.
Tamlin is doing well to control the posture of his opponent and prevent any damage.
Simpson is looking to stand up but Tamlin won't let him.
Simpson trying desperately to get back to his feet here but he's not having any joy at all. He's going to tire himself out if he's not careful.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Germone Simpson just wasn't active enough.
Simpson thows a body shot but no joy.
Tamlin drops his hands momentarily and Simpson takes advantage with a crisp shot to the head.
Simpson looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Tamlin dodges the punch combination from Simpson.
Simpson looks to land a combination but Tamlin avoids it well.
Simpson swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Simpson throws a right and a left that Tamlin avoids nicely.

Simpson tries to bum rush Tamlin with a series of wild strikes but Tamlin uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Tamlin closes the distance and takes a jab right on the nose as he does so.
Germone Simpson seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Tamlin lands a straight punch to the body, keeping Simpson at a distance.
Simpson throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tamlin.

Tamlin has taken the fight to the clinch.

Tamlin turns his hips and lands a very nice judo throw into side control!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Simpson is not content to let Tamlin control the position.
The ground and pound from Tamlin seems to be hitting the mat more than his opponent.

Simpson is trying to get back to his feet.
Tamlin controls the position from side control.
It looks like Tamlin might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Tamlin has the superior BJJ but he's also working some ground strikes into his gameplan.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.
Simpson parries the strikes from Tamlin easily there. Tamlin is wary of posturing up too much because it might enable Simpson to escape.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Germone Simpson will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.



Tamlin closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.
Tamlin is taking a breather. Simpson says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.
Tamlin looks to land a strike but Simpson avoids it nicely and regains full guard.
Simpson wants to stand and escape but Tamlin is having none of it.
Simpson has momentary wrist control but Tamlin slips an elbow through the middle.
Tamlin passes Simpson's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Simpson is refusing to be controlled, as Tamlin sits in half guard.

Simpson pushes Tamlin off for just long enough to get back to his feet. Very athletic spring there.

Simpson throws a hook to the side of Tamlin's head but Tamlin sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Simpson throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Tamlin tries for a takedown but Simpson sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Simpson looks to land a combination. Tamlin sees it coming but can only parry a couple of the shots.
Simpson scores with a punch to the gut of his opponent.
Simpson circles away from the clinch attempt.
Simpson takes a swing at Tamlin's ribcage but misses.

Tamlin shoots in for a takedown from distance. He catches Simpson napping and manages to drive through into side control!
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.

Simpson on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Simpson tries to get out of the position.

Tamlin wants to lay and pray for a moment but Simpson keeps working.
Tamlin misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.
Brick Tamlin has got the better of the ground game so far.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Tamlin is looking to take a break and control but Simpson is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Tamlin fails to land a wild elbow strike.

Tamlin wants to control but Simpson is keeping him busy.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Tamlin remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Germone Simpson has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Brick Tamlin.
