PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Jim Bo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Benji Cada (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Cada has chosen Devil Went Down To Cadaville as his entrance music. On his way into the cage it seems that Jim Bo has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jim Bo seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 17 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Jim Bo!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Benji Cada!
The judges for this bout are Gwen Towbar, Wesley Smith and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Bo misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Cada.
Cada shoots for a double leg takedown but Bo sprawls well. He's pushed Cada's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
Jim Bo seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Bo shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Cada pinned against the cage. Cada gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.

Horrible takedown by Bo or perhaps it was just good defense by Cada which made him look bad.

Some bone on bone action there as Cada checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.
Cada ducks under an overhand right and circles away with a smile on his face.
Bo looks to score with a jab to the body but Cada is just out of range.

Bo throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Cada was covering up waiting for the punch and Bo finishes the takedown easily into guard.

A real slowdown in the pace of the fight for a moment, as Cada holds on and takes a little breather.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Jim Bo.

Cada is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Bo's half guard.
Bo is looking for a sweep. Cada is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Bo is working hard here to advance position.

Cada walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Bo throws a wild combination but nothing lands.

and Cada counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Bo's guard now.
Bo seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.
Cada content to stall in guard here.
We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.

If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Benji Cada wasn't active enough on the ground.

Cada changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Bo tries to avoid it but Cada manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Bo to the ground. Bo escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Bo throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Cada's waist but Cada gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Bo off to one side.

Bo shoots in but no luck this time.

Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.
Bo misses with a jab, cross combination.
Cada will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Bo is looking to chop away at Cada's legs.
Cada takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Bo looks to land a left hand but Cada moved out of range nicely.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. Let's get this one finished - here comes the final round!

Cada is in a good position here but he's just trying to control... And he's not even managing to do that successfully.

Benji Cada has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Bo takes a swing at Cada's ribcage but misses.

Bo shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Cada tries to reverse the position but Bo maintains control.
Bo tries to control but Cada wriggling away.
Cada working to try and regain half guard.

Cada is writhing around trying to get back to his feet.
Bo trying to control but Cada is having none of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Jim Bo just wasn't active enough.
A telegraphed takedown attempt from Bo is defended easily by Cada.

Bo closes the distance and clinches up with Cada, looking for a takedown. Bo pushes Cada against the cage but Cada circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jim Bo. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Cada shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Bo as he jumps to the side.

The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
No luck for Cada with that takedown attempt.
Benji Cada is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Cada takes one to the side of the head.
Bo lands a beauty of a right hand that gets the crowd cheering.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Jim Bo.
Well I reckon that's a shut out for Bo, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
