PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Dave Gers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Ray Master (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Gers kept the crowd waiting but all that was forgotten when his ring entrance music started. The incomparable musical genius that is Iron Maiden - The Trooper. Master has chosen Scars as his entrance music. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 4 - 0, fighting out of London, Dave Gers!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of London, Ray Master!
The judges for this bout are Chris Edwards, James Ackerman and Daniel Bishop.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Gers shoots in and drives through. Master sprawls well.

Master gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Master is looking to control Gers's arms but Gers gets an underhook and turns him. Now Master has his back to the cage.
Master using the Thai clinch to land knees to the body.
Master is pressed up against the cage. Gers has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Master down to the mat. Master avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Gers shoots for a double leg takedown but Master sprawls well. He's pushed Gers's face into the mat and manages to get back to his feet relatively easily.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Dave Gers. That's going to take a lot out of him.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Gers.
Master throws a nice inside leg kick.
Master buckles his opponent's knee momentarily with a nice leg kick.
Gers is breathing heavily.
Master throws a head kick that looked like it stung.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

It looks like Dave Gers has been cut.

Master turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Master manages to end up in side control.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Master thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.

Master is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Gers is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.

Master scores with a couple of short elbows.
Master wants to control but Gers is keeping him busy.
Master content to control the pace. The referee will try and keep them active though.

Master looking for an arm triangle but it's way too loose to do anything.

Master is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Gers knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Gers has no desire to be mounted, so is trying to control. Master is working away from the top position though.

Master is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Gers sees it coming and defends easily.
Master is trying to control the action in half guard but Gers is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.

Gers moves into full guard.

Master slips effortlessly into side control - very nice.

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Master tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Master has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Gers is trying to control Master's posture but Master avoids it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Ray Master dominated that round.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Gers throws a jab, cross combination which is slipped
and Master counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Gers throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Master is looking to clinch but Gers is avoiding it.
Master wants to clinch.
Master lands an overhand right.
Gers shoots in looking for a double leg takedown. Master defends it nicely.
Master lands a head kick. Gers smiles back at him and beckons him forward.
Gers chopped to the floor by a nice leg kick but he springs right back up before Master can pounce on him.

Gers shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Master but Master pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Good leg kick by Master there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Master doesn't manage to clinch there - Gers circles away.
This is turning into a torrid day at the office for Gers. He's trying desperately to land a takedown but he's failing miserably and getting slapped silly on the feet to compound his misery.
Gers looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Master dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Master is looking to clinch but Gers is avoiding it.
Master throws a feint and then finishes with a kick to the body.

Gers is pinned up against the cage taking some big shots here. The referee is looking closely deciding whether he should stop the fight.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Master thuds his right hand into Gers's forehead from close range. That could be painful for both fighters.

Master tests Gers's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Master digs a good hook to Gers's body.
Master bobs and weaves and then throws a good body kick.

Master gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Gers has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Master is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Master has Gers pressed up against the cage. He's trying to work for a single leg takedown. Master pulls back from the cage and twists to the side, sending Gers tumbling to the mat - Master dives into Gers's guard.

Master stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Gers swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Master pushing down on Gers's thigh, trying to pass to half guard. He's managed it... Nice work.

Master is working for a submission of some sort.
Gers is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Master is trying to control. Gers wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.

Ray Master showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

OK. That's time! The bell goes and we're back to the action. The crowd applaud as we get ready to start the final round!

Gers shoots in and drives through. Master sprawls well.
Master slips a jab from Gers.
Gers tries to score a power double leg takedown but Master sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Gers somewhat.
Gers is trying hard to land a takedown here. Master sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.

Master with a nice looking leg kick. You could hear that one land in a back row.
Gers looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? Master is fending him off so far but Gers persists. Nope, Master circles away and we're back to standing.

Gers takes a kick to the side of the head.

Gers gets tackled into the cage by Master. Master maintains the clinch.
Master lands with a right to the head.
Master taking a break, stalling in the clinch.
Master has been the more effective fighter overall so far.

Ray Master is fighting for a decision - hopefully he's judged it right and he's actually winning the fight.

Master slows down the pace of the fight, as he sits in guard.
Gers is pulling down on Master's head. It's preventing any offense from Master, at least for the moment.

The ref calls for a clean break and stands the fighters back up. Ray Master wasn't active enough on the ground.
Master leaves Gers with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.

Ouch! a nice leg kick from Master, right into the meat.
Gers shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Gers throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Master's waist but Master gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Gers off to one side.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Ray Master comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Master has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
