PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Steeve Guenot (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Janek Janosik (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Janek Janosik was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Steeve Guenot!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Janek Janosik!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Cesar, Emerson Jorge and Felipe Paraventi.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Janosik doesn't succeed with the takedown

and Guenot decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Janosik's guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.

Janosik looking for a guillotine here but Guenot defends easily.
Guenot has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Janosik escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. Guenot gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.
Guenot's corner is telling him to maintain position.

Janosik has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Guenot can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Guenot not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Steeve Guenot.
Janosik dives in and grabs Guenot's left leg, looking for a takedown. Guenot pushes down on Janosik's head and hops out.

Guenot has the hooks in. Janosik is trying to push off one leg but he has to do so cautiously to avoid being submitted.
Janosik manages to reverse the position and now he's in Guenot's guard. Nice work there by Janosik.

Janosik postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Guenot is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Janosik, into his guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Guenot fakes high and shoots in for a takedown but Janosik avoids it really well and circles away.

and Guenot counters with a shoot takedown. Janosik fights it but they end up in guard.

Janosik working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Guenot doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Guenot manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Janosik throws his legs up looking for a submission but Guenot uses it to pass to side control.
Janosik is trying to escape the position but Guenot is controlling the position.

Guenot closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Guenot lands in his opponent's guard.

Guenot seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Janosik for as long as he can get away with.

Guenot got a little sloppy there for a moment and Janosik has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Guenot has managed to get both his arms back between Janosik's legs - danger averted.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Guenot, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
