The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Veldspar looking to shoot here. He's gone for it and he's landed a takedown into mount! Oh, that's bad for Sanchez!
Sanchez tries to get back to half guard but can't.

Veldspar wants to finish this one by submission but Sanchez is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Veldspar.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Veldspar is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Veldspar is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Sanchez has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Sanchez!

Veldspar drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.

Veldspar is breathing heavily.
Sanchez manages to work his way to half guard, despite Veldspar's best efforts.
Sanchez is looking for a sweep. Veldspar is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Sanchez moves into full guard.
Veldspar wants to control from the top but Sanchez keeps moving.

Sanchez wants to sweep here but Veldspar controlling him for the moment.
Sanchez is trying to control the position but Veldspar postures up.
Veldspar postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.

Veldspar decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Sanchez, up you get!

and Veldspar counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Veldspar wants to control but Sanchez is keeping him busy.

and Veldspar decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Sanchez's guard.

Sanchez is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Sanchez takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Veldspar strikes from the bottom but Sanchez takes advantage and advances to full mount!
Veldspar bucks up and manages to get a nice reversal! He's in guard on the top - nicely done!
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Veldspar works a leg free and moves into half guard.
Veldspar tries to pass the half guard into mount. Sanchez knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Veldspar is tying to control. Sanchez wants to improve his position but can't escape this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Veldspar closes the distance and clinches up with Sanchez, looking for a takedown. Veldspar pushes Sanchez against the cage but Sanchez circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
