Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Sam Gracie (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Nick Trujillo (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Sam Gracie!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Nick Trujillo!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gracie shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Gracie was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!
Gracie throwing strikes here but Trujillo is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.
Gracie tries to control but Trujillo wriggling away.

Gracie tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.
Gracie throwing strikes here but Trujillo is writhing around nicely and avoiding any serious damage.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Gracie gets to his feet and calls his opponent to stand. Here come the fireworks!

A momentary lapse in concentration from Trujillo enables Gracie to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Trujillo manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Trujillo has his feet on Gracie's hips. He pushes off and gets to his feet. Nice work.
Trujillo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gracie circles away quickly and effectively.
Trujillo throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.

Gracie feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

Gracie would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

and Gracie counters with a takedown into side control.

Gracie stands up and beckons Trujillo to his feet.
Trujillo ducks down and throws a hook to the body but Gracie moves away.
Gracie throws a series of punches but Trujillo moves out of range.

Trujillo throws a right and a left that Gracie avoids nicely.
Trujillo tries to bum rush Gracie with a series of wild strikes but Gracie uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Gracie closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Trujillo's guard.
Gracie really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Gracie is looking to work some ground and pound but Trujillo has wrist control.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Trujillo lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Gracie circles away quickly and effectively.

Gracie takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Sam Gracie is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

and Gracie counters with a takedown into side control.

Gracie decides to stand back up. Gracie steps back and let's Trujillo get back to his feet.

and Gracie counters with a nice shoot takedown that brings the fighters to the ground.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Gracie looking to sit in guard and control but Trujillo gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Gracie tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Gracie wants to get back to his feet but Trujillo is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Trujillo with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.

Trujillo throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Gracie works some decent striking defense from the bottom.
Gracie wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
Gracie knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Trujillo on the ground.
Gracie's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.

Gracie wants to control from the top but Trujillo keeps moving.
Gracie seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

We're going to have a standup here because Sam Gracie wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Gracie shoots in and bounces Trujillo off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Gracie is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Gracie will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

Gracie stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Trujillo swivels though and keeps the full guard.

and Gracie counters with a nice double leg into side control. Trujillo won't be happy with that.
Gracie remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Gracie can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Trujillo is looking to escape.
Nick Trujillo has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!
Sam Gracie is fighting for a decision here - he's started to take the cautious approach.

Well I reckon that's a shut out for Gracie, winning every round. Will the judges agree? They are the ones who matter, even if they are often depressingly incompetent. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
