PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Jared Walken (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Alex Reid (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). On his way into the cage it seems that Jared Walken has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Jared Walken seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of London, Jared Walken!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Alex Reid!
The judges for this bout are James Ackerman, Donald Grub and Andrew Berry.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Walken circles away from the clinch attempt

so Walken counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.
Walken stays in close to Reid's body and controls the position.
Walken throwing strikes but missing.

Walken drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Walken jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Walken has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

There's not a lot going on here and the crowd are letting the fighters know they're not willing to tolerate a lack of action.
Walken's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground.
Walken seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Reid for as long as he can get away with.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. And we move into the final round!



Walken closes the distance and clinches up, looking for a takedown. He shifts his weight and gets a nice trip into half guard.

Walken has controlled the position for a good 20 seconds, which will no doubt be starting to frustrate his opponent.

Walken looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.
Reid takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Walken perhaps working for something from half guard, or maybe not. It looks like he's just sitting there.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Walken wants to pass the guard but Reid is defending well.
Walken throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Walken is taking a breather. Reid says something to him but it's hard to make out. Perhaps he's telling him to get on with it and actually do something.

We're going to have a standup here because Jared Walken wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

Walken throws a loose over hand right and dives in with a double leg takedown. Reid tries to sprawl but it's too late and the fighters hit the mat. Walken is in Reid's guard.
