The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ortizz misses with a looping right.
Hicken scores with a nice right hand.
Ortizz shoots in looking for a takedown. Hicken tries to sprawl out of it but Ortizz keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Hicken manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.

Ortizz is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
Hicken loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
Hicken postures up and lands some nice ground and pound.

Hicken has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hicken postures up in Ortizz's guard and throws a big left but Ortizz blocks it.
Hicken is fighting to break Ortizz's control of his arms but Ortizz is doing a good job of controlling the position at the moment.
Hicken slows down the pace of the fight for a moment. He'll need to remain active if he doesn't want to see the fight stood back up.

Bret Hicken has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Ortizz shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hicken sprawls well. Hicken wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ortizz gets slowly back to his feet.

Ortizz goes for a takedown attempt but Hicken pushes him away and we're back to fighting at a distance.

Hicken lands with a short head shot on the inside.
An uppercut to the body lands inside from Hicken.
Hicken lands with a left to the head.
Hicken scores with a shot to the side of Ortizz's head.
Hicken lands an uppercut in the clinch that drops Ortizz to his knees! Hicken keeps firing more shots against his stricken opponent and the referee jumps in to save him!
