Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Matt Hughes (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Troyer Edgecombe (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Edgecombe has chosen Killling in the Name - Rage Against the Machine as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Matt Hughes!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 6 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Troyer Edgecombe!
The judges for this bout are Alexandre Firmino, Felipe Paraventi and Emerson Jorge.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hughes shoots and misses
and Edgecombe counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.

Edgecombe pivots as if he's going to throw a leg kick but stops half way.

Hughes throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Edgecombe was covering up waiting for the punch and Hughes finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Hughes throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Edgecombe works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Hughes working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.

Hughes has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.
Hughes throws and elbow that misses. Edgecombe uses the momentum to reverse the position. He's now in Hughes's guard. Nice move by Edgecombe!

It looks like Edgecombe might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Troyer Edgecombe was stalling too much, according to the referee.
Hughes tries for a takedown but Edgecombe circles away easily
and Edgecombe counters with a series of strikes. Hughes will be more careful next time no doubt.
Edgecombe throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Hughes.
Edgecombe fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. Hughes looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.

Edgecombe shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Hughes is trying to escape but when you're mounted that's not too easy.
Edgecombe throws a strike there. Hughes manages to avoid it well and slips a leg under to get to half guard.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Edgecombe closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hughes's guard.
Edgecombe stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Hughes swivels though and keeps the full guard.

We're going to have a standup here because Matt Hughes wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Edgecombe swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Edgecombe lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!
Edgecombe comes forward and lands a shot to the body, then darts back out of range.
Edgecombe throws a right hand that Hughes ducks under and follows up with a left that Hughes also avoids with ease.

and Edgecombe counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Edgecombe.

enabling Edgecombe to counter with a crisp jab.

and Edgecombe counters with a shot to the ribs. That looked like it hurt.

Hughes slips a jab and a cross from Edgecombe.
Both fighters are looking to counter, which isn't making for the most exciting fight in the world.
Edgecombe keeps the fight standing with a nice sprawl.
Edgecombe is throwing a lot of body shots here, looking to wear down Hughes rather than just go for the knockout.

Edgecombe works the jab nicely.

Troyer Edgecombe showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.

Well Edgecombe has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
