PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Brent McNeil (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tyron Woodley (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Woodley is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Kanye West-Stronger. I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Brent McNeil!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Tyron Woodley!
The judges for this bout are Ian Loll, Gregory Folan and Steve Smith.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
McNeil misses with a head kick.
Woodley fakes and then throws a beautiful body shot. McNeil looks a bit winded and takes a step backwards to take a breath.
McNeil tries to clinch up but Woodley circles away and keeps his distance.
Woodley punishes McNeil's body with a nice straight punch.
Woodley misses with a double jab.
Woodley throws a combination but it was largely blocked by McNeil.
McNeil shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Woodley as he jumps to the side.
Woodley fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.
A combination from McNeil does no damage.
A head kick misses from McNeil.
McNeil is breathing heavily.

Woodley drops McNeil with a left right combo! Woodley follows him down to the ground into side control.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
McNeil avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Woodley.
Woodley creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.

Woodley lands a knee to the body and follows it up with some ground and pound to the head. That will wear McNeil down.
Woodley takes a little break here. McNeil wants to take advantage but he is being controlled well.

McNeil bucks up and manages to escape back to his feet!
McNeil tries to clinch but Woodley moves away

and Woodley counters with a leg kick then a big left hand that sends McNeil down! Woodley is looking to finish but McNeil is intelligently defending himself.


McNeil is rocked!

McNeil has his foot on Woodley's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Woodley works his way back into a safe position though.
Oh McNeil is still in real trouble! Will he be able to recover?!!
Woodley's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Woodley stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. McNeil swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Woodley stays in close to McNeil's body and controls the position.

Woodley loading up with the ground and pound but he's missing more than he's landing in this flurry.
McNeil seems to have got his legs back now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Woodley works over McNeil with some ground and pound from guard.

McNeil controls Woodley momentarily but Woodley frees himself.

Woodley drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Woodley jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

McNeil throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Woodley's waist but Woodley gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing McNeil off to one side.

Woodley is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But McNeil has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from McNeil!

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Woodley can do anything to dispel that myth.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

Well Woodley has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
