Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Derek Patterson (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mr Tiyrikan (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Mr Tiyrikan!
The judges for this bout are Fedor Mirinova, Viktor Lagutenko and Aleksei Zolotukhin.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Patterson looking to score a takedown here. Tiyrikan is defending well but Patterson drives through and ends up in Tiyrikan's guard.
Patterson sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Tiyrikan's guard.

Patterson postures up and decides to stand up, from the half guard. The ref calls for Tiyrikan to stand up.

Patterson shoots in with a lovely double leg takedown. Tiyrikan manages to land in full guard to minimise the damage.
Patterson controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Patterson decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Tiyrikan, up you get!

Patterson clinches up with Tiyrikan and pushes him back against the ropes.

Tiyrikan jumps guard but his hands slip and he falls flat on his back. Well, he's made himself look a right mug there, as Patterson walks away with a smile on his face. Tiyrikan gets slowly back to his feet and shakes his head.

Patterson breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Tiyrikan throws a head kick that misses.

Patterson closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Tiyrikan to the mat! Tiyrikan manages to get full guard.
Patterson stops Tiyrikan from standing up.
Patterson is taking a break and basically stalling. The referee will not allow him to do that for long.

Patterson decides to stand up and beckons his opponent to follow.
Tiyrikan looks gassed!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Patterson darts in and clinches Tiyrikan up against the ropes.

Patterson's corner calls for him to break the clinch, which he does.

Patterson gets the takedown into side control.
Patterson remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

Patterson stands up.
Tiyrikan changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Patterson tries to avoid it but Tiyrikan manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Patterson to the ground. Patterson escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Derek Patterson.
Patterson throws a leg kick but Tiyrikan moved away.
Patterson throws a solid leg kick but Tiyrikan takes the impact on his shin and smiles at Patterson.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Tiyrikan wants to get back to his feet but Patterson is in a dominant position and won't allow it.

Patterson seems to have a rather negative gameplan on the ground. He seems keen to just score the takedown and hold down Tiyrikan for as long as he can get away with.

Patterson has a closed guard, preventing anything of note from happening. Perhaps he's looking to stall.

The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Patterson is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Patterson is looking for a kimura but Tiyrikan is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Patterson to get the leverage.

Patterson is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. Tiyrikan knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.

Patterson tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Patterson has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
