PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Miyamoto Usagi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Steve Rogers (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Rogers has chosen I Am A Real American as his entrance music. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 14 - 13 - 0, fighting out of New York, Miyamoto Usagi!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 20 - 8 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Steve Rogers!
The judges for this bout are Joseph Jones, Steve Montenegro and Anthony Taglia.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Rogers just misses with a punch to the body.
Rogers tries to bum rush Usagi with a series of wild strikes but Usagi uses good footwork to avoid the assault.
Usagi misses with a telegraphed body shot
and Rogers counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.
Usagi misses with a takedown attempt - Rogers sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Usagi throws a front kick aimed at Rogers's knee but Rogers avoids it well.
Usagi just misses with a punch to the body.

and Usagi counters nicely by changing levels and landing a hook to the body.

Rogers manages to break the clinch.

Usagi closes the distance and pushes Rogers back into the cage.

Usagi ties up his opponent against the cage and manages to drag the fight down to the ground. Usagi no doubt will be looking to work submissions from his guard.

Usagi bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Rogers's guard.

Rogers really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Usagi. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Rogers throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Rogers misses with a series of wild punches.
Rogers throws a jab but it's blocked by Usagi.
Rogers pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Usagi shoots in looking for a takedown but Rogers manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Usagi's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
Rogers lands a glancing blow to the side of Usagi's head.

and Usagi counters with a single leg into guard. Rogers didn't expect that.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Usagi wants to control from the top but Rogers keeps moving.

Usagi tries to free his leg and advance position but Rogers is retaining full guard.

Neither fighter is doing enough for the referee's liking and he's decided to stand them back up.
A looping hook to the body misses from Rogers. Usagi does a little dance to reset his feet.

Usagi avoids a lazy jab quite easily.

Usagi shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Usagi was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

The fighters are starting to get a bit slippery now, which will make submissions a bit more difficult.
Usagi with some aggressive grappling here. He's looking for submissions here, rather than waiting for the opportunity to counter.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Usagi is thinking about an arm triangle here, looking to tighten it up before moving to side control. Rogers can see it coming though and defends well with a couple of strikes to the head and some good arm positioning.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Miyamoto Usagi overall seems to be getting the better of the ground position in the fight so far.

Usagi is working on a single leg takedown against the cage. Rogers can't fight it off and eventually Usagi manages to take the fight to the floor. Rogers looks annoyed but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Usagi drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Usagi jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.

Rogers connects with a leg kick. Usagi looked like he was expecting something else and didn't defend it.
Rogers stalks Usagi and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Usagi's face. Usagi staggers backwards, shaken.

Steve Rogers comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Rogers has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
