PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Mamath Blah (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Tim Tungsten (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The key to victory for Mamath Blah has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of London, Mamath Blah!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Tim Tungsten!
The judges for this bout are Konstantin Menshow, Dmitry Maklakov and Sergei Dronov.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Tungsten keeps his opponent at a distance with a nice jab.
Blah listening to his corner there, landing a nice uppercut.
Tungsten blocks a low kick nicely.
Tungsten with a lazy takedown attempt
and Blah counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Tungsten closes this distance looking for a takedown but Blah circles away.
Tungsten will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Mamath Blah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Tungsten.
Tungsten closes the distance and clinches up with Blah, looking for a takedown. Tungsten pushes Blah against the cage but Blah circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Blah lands the left hand.
Tungsten with a poor takedown
and Blah counters with a nice uppercut.
Mamath Blah seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Blah waving his hands out in front of him, looking to distract Tungsten.
Blah bobbing and weaving, closes the distance and lands a hook to the side of Tungsten's head.
Tungsten avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Blah throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Tungsten.
Blah throws a hook but Tungsten avoids it easily.
Blah is using his height advantage well here, landing a good percentage of his punches.
Tungsten takes a shot to the eye socket. That's gotta hurt.
Tungsten changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Blah tries to avoid it but Tungsten manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Blah to the ground. Blah escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

Tungsten ducks under a wild hook from Blah.
Nice takedown defense from Blah. No joy for Tungsten on that attempt.
Blah with a jab.
Tungsten takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Blah enables Tungsten to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Blah manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Blah wants to stand and escape but Tungsten is having none of it.
Blah on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Blah tries to get out of the position.
Tungsten sitting in guard here, content to control.
Tungsten scoring with some ground and pound.
Tungsten not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.
Blah trying to control the position.

Blah wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Blah is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Tungsten is controlling him.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.
No joy there for Blah, who threw a few shots but didn't land.
Tungsten throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Blah's waist but Blah gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Tungsten off to one side.
Blah misses with a double jab.
A left and a right from Tungsten both land. Nice combination.
Tungsten lands with a straight right. Blah didn't see that one coming.
Tungsten takes a body punch but keeps moving.
Tungsten will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Blah misses with a low kick.
Blah needs to keep his hands up - Tungsten had a free shot at his head there.
Tungsten fails with the takedown.
Blah throws a leg kick that misses.
Blah dips down and scores with a jab to the body.
Tungsten thows a body shot but no joy.
Blah misses with an uppercut. Tungsten saw that one coming.
Blah is really peppering his opponent's head with punches.
Blah loads up on a big right hand but Tungsten slips the punch.
Blah throws a body punch but Tungsten moves out of range.
Blah connects with a good right hand that stumbles Tungsten. Tungsten circles away out of range and recomposes himself.
Tungsten fails with a takedown attempt.
Tungsten fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Blah throws a hook but Tungsten avoids it easily.
Blah swings for the body but Tungsten moves out of range.
Blah is using his reach advantage well here, landing the more effective single shots from range.
Tungsten shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Blah as he avoids it easily.
Tungsten fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Blah works his jab well there, keeping his opponent at a distance.
Blah displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Tungsten.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tungsten fails to land the takedown.
Tungsten looks gassed!
Tungsten shoots in for a takedown but Blah shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mamath Blah dominated that round.
Well, the break between rounds is over. Let's get back to the scrappin!


Blah lands the left hand.

Tungsten shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Blah is trying to defend but Tungsten finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Blah is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.
Tungsten missing with the ground and pound from half guard.
Blah is looking for a sweep. Tungsten is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Blah wants to control but Tungsten is keeping busy and won't allow it.
Tungsten wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blah keeps working.
Blah is trying to stand up here but Tungsten is controlling him well.

Tungsten wants to free his trapped foot but Blah is holding on for dear life with his legs.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Tungsten shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Blah as he jumps to the side.
Blah misses with the combination.
Blah throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Tungsten counters with a nice double leg into half guard.
Blah wants to stand back up but Tungsten manages to pass into side control.
Tungsten controlling from side mount.
Tim Tungsten has got the better of the ground game so far.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Blah can't do much from the bottom here.
Blah is trying to stand back up. He's worked his way up against the cage but Tungsten has just dragged him back down to the mat.
Tungsten trying to control the action but Blah is working from the bottom.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Tungsten working away.
Blah is looking for a sweep.
Blah defending against the ground and pound.

Tungsten thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Blah gets back to half guard.
Tungsten stops Blah from getting back to his feet.

Tungsten is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Blah defends it well.

Blah is controlling Tungsten's trapped leg to prevent Tungsten from advancing to side control.
Blah wants to get back to full guard.

Tungsten throwing punches and elbows but they're not doing any damage.
Tungsten takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.
Blah gets back to full guard.
Blah wants to improve his position but instead Tungsten has moved into half guard.
Tungsten is looking to take a break and control but Blah is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Tungsten wants to pass to mount but Blah is defending the position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Tungsten wants to lay and pray for a moment but Blah keeps working.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Tim Tungsten showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. And we move into the final round!



Tungsten closes the distance and gets a double leg, slamming Blah to the mat! Blah manages to get full guard.
Blah is trying to keep Tungsten in close.
Blah really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.
Blah wants to sweep but no luck.
Blah keeping moving, preventing Tungsten from controlling successfully.
Blah wants to stand and escape but Tungsten is having none of it.
Tungsten throwing strikes from guard but Blah blocks nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Blah is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Tungsten is controlling him.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Tungsten content to stall in guard here.
Blah will need to keep those long limbs tucked in whilst he's on the ground, to prevent any submissions.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.
Blah stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and Blah wants it to stay on the feet.
Blah lands a really nice looking cross but Tungsten seems unphased.
Tungsten is trying hard to land a takedown here. Blah sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
Blah slips a straight right by Tungsten.
Tungsten takes one on the chin but seems OK.

Tungsten closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Blah's guard.

Tungsten prevents Blah from getting back to his feet.
Tungsten trying to control the position from guard on top but Blah is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Tungsten won't allow Blah to get back to his feet.

Blah working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Tungsten.
Tungsten wants to control from the top but Blah keeps moving.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

Blah throws the left hand but Tungsten avoids the punch easily.
Tungsten shoots in looking for a takedown. Blah tries to sprawl out of it but Tungsten keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Blah manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Mamath Blah has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Tim Tungsten.
Tungsten misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.
Tungsten fails with a takedown attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Tungsten.
Blah scores with a crisp jab that stopped Tungsten in his tracks.

No luck for Tungsten with that takedown attempt.
Blah throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.
Tim Tungsten is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Blah takes a swing at Tungsten's ribcage but misses.
Blah with a jab.
Tungsten misses with a takedown attempt - Blah sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Blah slaps away a takedown attempt from Tungsten, before circling back to the center of the mat.
A big left from Blah misses.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

Tungsten closes the distance and clinches up with Blah, looking for a takedown. Tungsten pushes Blah against the cage but Blah circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.

And that's the end of the fight!
That was a close round. You could make an argument for either fighter but I would give it to Mamath Blah.
I think Blah has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
