PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Gregory Bell (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Glen Quagmire (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gregory Bell!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Glen Quagmire!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, Stewart Dunkirk and Alan Glass.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Quagmire scores with a big left there. The judges will like that one.
Bell uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Quagmire has time to react.

Quagmire shoots in and gets a takedown into half guard. Quagmire showed some decent athleticism there.
Bell trying to control but Quagmire postures up.
Quagmire is trying to control the action in half guard but Bell is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
Quagmire works his foot free and advances to mount.
Bell really trying hard to get back to half guard here.
Quagmire lands a heavy elbow.
Quagmire unloading with bombs!

Quagmire working for a submission but Bell is keeping him at bay.
Bell sneaks a leg under to get to half guard.

Bell is trying to get back to full guard.
Quagmire is pressing down on Bell's thigh, looking to free his foot. Bell is holding on for now.
Bell tries to get to full guard but Quagmire has control of the leg.
Quagmire is thwarting Bell's attempts to control the position.
Quagmire looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Bell slips a foot under and gets full guard. Nice work.

Bell working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Quagmire doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Quagmire manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Neither fighter has done anything of merit for a good minute or two here and the crowd are not happy about it.
Bell controlling the position.
Quagmire is looking to work some ground and pound but Bell has wrist control.
Quagmire postures up to throw the ground and pound strikes but they don't connect.
Bell working a defensive guard but Quagmire manages to pass into side control anyway.

Quagmire tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Quagmire has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Bell on his back here. We all know that wrestlers don't like being on their back so let's see if Bell tries to get out of the position.

Quagmire is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Bell is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Bell tries to bench press Quagmire off him but Quagmire keeps the position.

Quagmire wants to work for a kimura but he's foiled early by Bell, who protects the arm well.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Quagmire wants to control but Bell is keeping him busy.
Bell gets back to half guard.
Bell trying to control from the bottom.
Quagmire works his way into full mount!

Quagmire moves into side control, trying to work for a kimura. That looks painful! Will he finish!!?? No, Bell has worked his arm free - good work by Bell!
Quagmire looks gassed!
Bell sneaks back into half guard.
Quagmire trying to mount his opponent but Bell defends it.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Bell is trying to control but can't.
Bell wants to improve his position but Quagmire is controlling well.
Bell knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Quagmire on the ground.
Bell trying to hold on to Quagmire's head to control him but Quagmire postures up.
Bell tries to roll over but Quagmire keeps him under control.
Quagmire throwing shots but Bell is blocking nicely.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Bell throws a body punch but Quagmire moves out of range.
Bell has his takedown stuffed
and Quagmire counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Glen Quagmire dominated that round.
That's time! Back to the action!


Bell avoids the body shot from Quagmire.
Gregory Bell is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Bell waving his hands out infront of him, looking to distract Quagmire.
A jab from Bell misses.
Bell misses with a takedown

and Quagmire decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Bell's guard.
Quagmire stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Bell swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Bell is trying to keep Quagmire in close.
Bell working the defensive guard well to avoid strikes from Quagmire.

Quagmire thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Bell bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Quagmire's guard.

Quagmire working for a triangle but Bell defends it easily.
Quagmire is breathing heavily.
Bell landing with the ground and pound.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Bell with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Quagmire not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Quagmire pulls Bell in close to prevent any damage.
Quagmire can't keep his opponent in guard - Bell advances to half guard, no doubt looking to mount.
Bell not doing much here.
Quagmire taking some punishment here, with Bell in his half guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Bell connects with a nice short shot to Quagmire's temple.
Quagmire is looking to control Bell's leg but it's slowly edging free. Can Quagmire avoid being mounted?
Bell content to control rather than advance.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Bell is keen to just control but Quagmire is a slippery customer.
Quagmire makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Quagmire.
Bell wants to control from the top but Quagmire keeps moving.

Quagmire is looking to sinch up a triangle. Bell throws the leg off to one side though and gets in tight to Quagmire's body to avoid the submission. Quagmire has instead reached around Bell's neck and now has a guillotine! Oh, this is biiiig trouble! Quagmire arches his back and squeezes and forces the tap from his hapless opponent.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:52 of round 2, we have a winner by way of Submission (Guillotine). Glen Quagmire!
