PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Jurnu Purnu (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Sergey Boyko (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Jurnu Purnu!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Sergey Boyko!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Kenichi Hosakawa.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boyko avoids the clinch attempt nicely.
Boyko takes a kick to the side of the head.
Boyko tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Purnu paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Boyko throws a series of punches but Purnu moves out of range.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Purnu.
Purnu takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.


It looks like Jurnu Purnu has been cut.
Sloppy strikes from Boyko. Those never looked like landing.
Purnu fails miserably with a takedown attempt.

Purnu clinches up with Boyko and pushes him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Purnu is trying to drag Boyko to the mat but Boyko just about manages to keep his footing. He used the cage to his advantage there.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Jurnu Purnu. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Boyko breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Boyko swings wildly with a couple of big hooks

and Purnu decides to take the opportunity to score a takedown. He's landed in Boyko's guard.

We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Purnu postures up as if he's going to throw some strikes but drops back for an ankle! Boyko is in big trouble! He looks ready to tap! But no, he's escaped and dives on top of Purnu, into his guard.

Boyko stands and steps away. Purnu gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Boyko looks for the body kick but Purnu saw that one coming.
Purnu avoids a punch combination nicely.

Boyko fakes a couple of low kicks, before throwing one on the third attempt. It connects and Purnu has to reset his feet before getting ready to engage.
Purnu takes a punch to the jaw and another one to the bread basket.
Boyko misses with a body kick.
Purnu looks for the body kick but Boyko saw that one coming.
Sergey Boyko is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
A clash of legs there as Boyko blocks the low kick.
Boyko lands a leg kick that knocks Purnu off balance momentarily.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Purnu will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.

Boyko lands a kick to the ribs of his opponent. Nice work there - in and out in a flash.
Boyko throws a half hearted mid kick.
Boyko shapes like he's going to throw a leg kick but settles back down.

and Purnu counters with a slapping leg kick.
Boyko fails to land with the punch combination there - jab, cross, hook, miss, miss, miss.

A kick lands to the mid section there for Boyko.
Purnu is breathing heavily.

Boyko throws a low kick but it's checked well by Purnu.
Boyko misses with a body shot.

Purnu manages to get an easy takedown there - catching Boyko on his heels. He'll look to pass Boyko's guard now, I'm sure.

Jurnu Purnu has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Purnu has a nice red mark on his side after a thudding body kick by Boyko.
Boyko delivers a nice body kick.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Purnu has a takedown stuffed.
Purnu shoots in for a takedown but Boyko shows good takedown defense there and keeps this one on the feet.
Boyko connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Boyko misses with a few strikes there.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Boyko throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Boyko feints and then cracks Purnu's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Purnu down.

Boyko throws a lazy head kick

and Purnu counters with a shoot takedown. Boyko fights it but they end up in guard.
Purnu trying to control the position from guard on top but Boyko is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Boyko can do anything to dispel that myth.
Purnu sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed Boyko's guard.
Purnu stops Boyko from getting back to his feet.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Boyko really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Purnu. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Purnu uses his free foot to push down on Boyko's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Boyko.
Purnu can't quite control the action as he would like just now, as Boyko is looking to escape.

Boyko is controlling an arm, preventing Purnu from taking his back. Although keeping him in mount is no better to be honest.

Purnu goes for an armbar but Boyko turns quickly into his guard - lovely anticipation from Boyko.

Purnu is trying to keep Boyko in close.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

We're going to have a standup here because Jurnu Purnu wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

The crowd are hurling abuse towards the fighters... You can hardly blame them though because there isn't a lot going on in the fight.

Purnu is hobbling a little on that front leg after taking quite a few leg kicks so far in this fight.

I think Boyko has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
