Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Maro Santos (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Georg the Caliph (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). The crowd giving both fighters a great reception on their way into the arena. That's good to see.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of
15 - 13 - 1, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maro Santos!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of
10 - 5 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Georg the Caliph!
The judges for this bout are Chris Downing, Tiny Johnson and Cecil Peabody.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Santos jabbing away but nothing is landing.
the Caliph is trying hard to land a takedown here. Santos sprawls well and keeps this one on the feet.
the Caliph throws a two punch combo that lands nicely.

and the Caliph counters with a quick right hand to the jaw.

Santos misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from the Caliph.

the Caliph tries to score a power double leg takedown but Santos sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten the Caliph somewhat.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
This has been an exciting period of action!
You get the feeling that the Caliph really doesn't like being in this position too much.
the Caliph is desperately trying to improve his position but Santos has a good base and remains in mount.
Santos goes for an armbar but he's fallen flat on his backside there and now the Caliph is on top in guard.
Santos escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. the Caliph gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

That was a close round but I would say that Maro Santos will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.
