The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendes throws a nice looking combination but Spike bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Mendes avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
A combination from Mendes does no damage.
Spike misses with a body shot. Nice footwork from Mendes.

Mendes lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

Spike is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.

Spike has used his reach advantage pretty well so far tonight.

Fran Spike seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.

Spike feints and then cracks Mendes's leading leg with a nice low kick. He's obviously looking to slow Mendes down.

Mendes throws a right hand that Spike ducks under and follows up with a left that Spike also avoids with ease.
Spike throws a couple of head shots and lands with the final one - a decent hook, which struck Mendes on the side of the head.

Mendes rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Spike moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Mendes lands a powerful looking uppercut that connected with his opponent's jaw.

and Mendes counters with a head kick. That will keep Spike thinking before he tries any more sloppy attacks!

Spike throws a hook to the side of Mendes's head but Mendes sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.

Spike is landing a lot of head punches in this opening round! Mendes had better start moving his head a bit unless he wants his face to turn into pâté.

Whack! Mendes lands a heavy head kick that drops Spike. The ref tackles Mendes to stop the fight - a great save by the referee because Spike was done.
