PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Mason Dixon (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bob Smith (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Dixon's entrance music is It's A Fight by Three 6 Mafia. A fine choice. Bob Smith is the more experienced fighter, so let's see if that makes a difference tonight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mason Dixon!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Bob Smith!
The judges for this bout are Edson Gomes, Seu Braga and Leandro Rodrigues.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Dixon closes the distance and clinches up with Smith, looking for a takedown. Dixon pushes Smith against the cage but Smith circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Smith will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Smith closes the distance, clinches up and gets a nice trip takedown into side control. Very smooth.
Dixon manages to work his way to half guard, despite Smith's best efforts.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Smith is looking for a kimura but Dixon is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Smith to get the leverage.
Dixon keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.
Dixon is looking for a sweep. Smith is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Dixon is trying to defend against the ground and pound but Smith scores with a couple of nice shots.
Smith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dixon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.
Smith throwing shots but Dixon is blocking nicely.

Smith stands up from half guard... He's had enough of that ground malarky for the time being.
Smith avoids a punch combination nicely.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Smith fails with an attempt to clinch.
Smith gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily
and Dixon counters with a one-two to the body.
Dixon tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Smith paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Smith scores a takedown into full mount!
Dixon tries to get back to half guard but can't.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Dixon wants to hold on but Smith pushes him away.
Dixon is trying to escape the mount.
Smith lands a couple of nice shots there from mount.
Smith lands a shot to the body, followed up by a shot to the exposed head of his trapped opponent.
Dixon gets back to half guard.
Smith takes advantage of the dominant position to land a couple of big hammer fists.

Smith is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Dixon doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Smith.
Smith looks gassed!
Smith prevents Dixon from improving his position.
Smith lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.
Smith thumps the canvas. Not on purpose obviously - he just missed Dixon's head.
Dixon trying to control but Smith postures up.

Dixon actively working from the bottom here.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Dixon is not content to let Smith control the position.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fight is doing enough on the ground.
Dixon rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Smith moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Smith takes an uppercut right on the button but keeps his composure.

Smith bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Dixon stops Smith from passing to mount.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Dixon takes an elbow right on the bridge of the nose and winces in pain.
Dixon manages to get one leg in to regain half guard.
Smith looks towards his corner to check for any instructions. The corner give him nothing to work with, so he cracks Dixon with a short hammerfist. I guess that's as good as any advice he could get in this position.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
Dixon is pressing down on Smith's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.

Dixon has thrown up a leg looking for a triangle. Smith doesn't defend quickly enough and Dixon has managed to lock this one up! Can Smith escape?! NO! He's tapping out! Damn, that was a quick submission - congrats to Dixon on a fantastic submission victory.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 4:23 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Triangle). Mason Dixon!
