The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Boogaard will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
Derek Boogaard seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Dimbrov stuffs the takedown attempt from Boogaard. Boogaard gets slowly back to his feet.
Boogaard goes to the watering hole and comes back with a big thumbs up from the judges as he scores a three punch combo.

No joy there for Dimbrov, who threw a few shots but didn't land.

Dimbrov closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Boogaard with the Thai clinch. He's looking to land a big knee but he's not managed it this time.

Dimbrov breaks the clinch.
Boogaard throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Dimbrov's waist but Dimbrov gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Boogaard off to one side.
Dimbrov will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Boogaard avoids a punch combination nicely.

Dimbrov shoots in and bounces Boogaard off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Dimbrov closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Boogaard did well to prevent Dimbrov getting side control.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Dimbrov escapes and gets back to his feet.
Dimbrov loads up on a big right hand but Boogaard slips the punch.
Dimbrov cracks Boogaard with a right hand to the side of the head.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Boogaard moves out of range of the strikes.
Boogaard tries to clinch
and Dimbrov counters with a three punch combo that has Boogaard backing up. Boogaard nods at Dimbrov to acknowledge the strikes.
Dimbrov throws a 1-2 combo that connects squarely on Boogaard's jaw, knocking him onto his back! Dimbrov dives in looking to finish as Boogaard flails his arms in a desperate attempt to block Dimbrov's strikes! Dimbrov is raining down hammerfists and the ref stops it! Boogaard's desperate flailing just didn't constitute intelligent defence. Some people will probably question the ref's decision but Boogaard was definitely hurt and the ref saved him from taking unnecessary punishment. A fighter's safety is paramount in this sport.
