PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Sam Stewart (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Coleman (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Stewart might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Voodoo Child by Jimi Hendrix. We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Sam Stewart!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Rio de Janeiro, Mark Coleman!
The judges for this bout are Emerson Jorge, Felipe Paraventi and Alexandre Firmino.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Stewart misses with a jab and misses with a cross straight after too.
Coleman fails miserably with a takedown attempt.
Stewart swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
Coleman looks for a takedown but Stewart sprawls well.
Coleman is looking to clinch but Stewart is avoiding it.
Coleman avoids the body shot from Stewart.
Stewart misses with a double jab.

Coleman closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Coleman lands in his opponent's guard.
Coleman prevents Stewart from getting back to his feet.
Coleman must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.
Coleman trying to control but Stewart is working from the bottom.
Coleman stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stewart swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Coleman looking to sit in guard and control but Stewart gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
Stewart slips nicely into half guard, despite the strikes coming from Coleman.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Stewart wants to get back to his feet.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up.
Coleman shoots in but Stewart avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Sam Stewart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Coleman.

My god... these two guys really need to pick up the pace or everyone will leave to go get a beer.
Coleman shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Stewart pinned against the cage. Stewart gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Coleman slips a jab and a cross from Stewart.
A head kick misses from Stewart.
Coleman takes a head kick and keeps coming.
Stewart circles away from the clinch attempt.
Coleman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stewart as he avoids it easily.

Coleman misses with a kick to the body.
Coleman fails with a rather predictable takedown attempt.
Coleman falls off balance throwing a combination
and Stewart counters with a nice body shot.
Stewart misses with a low kick.

Coleman avoids the head kick by Stewart.
A solid leg kick lands there for Stewart.
Coleman fails to land with a series of punches.
Stewart throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Coleman.
Stewart works the jab nicely.
A head kick lands from Stewart that sends Coleman to the canvas. Coleman tries to scramble back to his feet but Stewart brings him back down into side control.


Coleman is rocked!
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Coleman is positioning himself to get back to half guard.
Coleman is still on wobbly legs! Can Stewart finish him?

Stewart has had enough of the ground for now and decides to stand.
Coleman seems to have recovered his senses.
Coleman shoots in and drives through. Stewart sprawls well.
Stewart looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Stewart just misses with a punch to the body.

Stewart gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Coleman trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
Stewart keeping moving, preventing Coleman from controlling successfully.

Coleman gets to his feet. Stewart looking to butt scoot but the ref puts an end to that. On your feet son!
Coleman shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Stewart but Stewart pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Stewart drops Coleman with a nice combination! Stewart dives into Coleman's guard, looking to finish!


It looks like Mark Coleman has been cut.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Stewart is looking to stand up but Coleman won't let him.
Coleman tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Coleman will have to put a bit more behind his punches if he's going to do any damage from this position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!


A clash of legs there as Coleman blocks the low kick.
Jab by Stewart.
Coleman shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Stewart as he avoids it easily.
Stewart stuffs the takedown attempt from Coleman. Coleman gets slowly back to his feet.
Stewart pulls out of a head kick attempt.
Stewart throws a hook to the side of Coleman's head but Coleman sees it coming and ducks under it beautifully.
Coleman doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Stewart counters with a good low kick that Coleman was not able to check.
Sam Stewart has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Mark Coleman.
Stewart misses with a few strikes there.
Coleman takes a shot to the nose. Hopefully that hasn't broken it.
Stewart swings for the body but Coleman moves out of range.
Coleman staying out of range there.
Good leg kick by Coleman there. It's the ones that make that thud noise that hurt and that was an almighty thud.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.

Stewart stuffs the takedown.
Coleman misses with a takedown attempt. He shot from a bit too far out.

Coleman feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.

The referee has ruled that neither fighter is active enough on the ground and has stood them back up.

and Stewart counters with a head kick.
Stewart throws a sloppy head kick and Coleman moves out of range easily.

Coleman looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Stewart pushes Coleman off looking to stand but Coleman dives back in and keeps control.

Coleman seems to be looking for submissions.
Stewart won't allow Coleman to pass to mount.

The fight stays on the outside here - Coleman looks like he's thinking about clinching though.

Stewart wants to stand but Coleman is controlling the position.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.

Stewart has butterfly guard. He's looking to stand up here. He pushes Coleman off him and springs to his feet nicely. The crowd applauds.

Coleman shoots in for a takedown! He's got it and he's managed to land in full mount! That's better than Coleman was expecting from the takedown attempt, I'm sure!

Coleman shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Stewart as he jumps to the side.
Stewart fakes a jab and throws a low kick but Coleman checks it well.

Stewart misses with a head kick.
Coleman fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Sam Stewart is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Coleman drops his hands and takes a jab to the jaw for his troubles.

Coleman decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
Coleman working over Stewart with some ground and pound. Stewart looks like he wants out of this position, which is understandable.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Coleman is looking for the mount but instead finds himself back in full guard.

Mark Coleman comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Coleman has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
