Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Takanori Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Moto Akita (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
The crowd cheers as Gomi lands an impressive looking overhand right. Akita doesn't seem phased though.
Gomi circles away from the clinch attempt.

A momentary lapse in concentration from Gomi enables Akita to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Gomi manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.
Gomi is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Gomi is looking for a kimura but he's never going to get it from there.

The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Gomi has freed up his trapped foot and advances to mount.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Gomi working from mount. He moves in close and looks like he might be going for an arm triangle... He's hopped off to the side and he's transitioned into an Anaconda choke. Akita turning a nasty shade of purple. He's refusing to tap but he's gone! He's out! The ref rips Gomi off and cradles Akita's limp body as Gomi celebrates with his corner.
