PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Brais Punk (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Esa Akerlund (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Akerlund has chosen Rainer Friman - Valkeat vaunut as his entrance music. Over to our ring announcer for the fighter introductions!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 4 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Brais Punk!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 8 - 12 - 0, fighting out of Amsterdam, Esa Akerlund!
The judges for this bout are Paulsen Ambrosius, Aafke Stam and Radbod Blank.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Punk misses with a series of wild punches.
Punk takes a shot to the body in his stride.

The fight moves into the clinch position.

Akerlund is fighting off a takedown attempt but Punk is just too persistent for him and manages to trip Akerlund to the mat. Akerlund regains guard as soon as the fighters hit the mat.
The referee wants the fighters to be more active or he's going to reset them on the feet.
Punk not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

Punk thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.
Punk sitting in guard, not really doing much.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Punk is trying to work a guillotine from the top, or something like that? Don't know how he thinks he's going to get a finish from there.
Punk prevents Akerlund from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Akerlund preventing the ground and pound from doing any damage.
Punk working some strikes from top position.
Punk is intent on slowing down the pace of the fight, simply looking to control.
Punk forces his way into half guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.
Akerlund is trying to stand back up but Punk is controlling him

We're going to have a standup here because Brais Punk wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Punk looks to score with a combo but nothing lands.
Akerlund tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Punk paws at him with a jab and circles away.

Akerlund closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
The fighters are pressed against the cage, as the pace of the fight slows.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Punk tries to score a body lock takedown but Akerlund shows good agility there to stay on his feet.

Akerlund tries to work over Punk's body with a swooping hook but it only glances the target.
Akerlund misses with a punch to the body.

Punk gets the body lock takedown. After a quick scramble, Akerlund regains guard.
Punk controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Akerlund is looking to get back to his feet but can't, whilst Punk is controlling him.
Punk controlling from the top position.

Punk gets to his feet - Akerlund follows without any prompting.

Punk takes a nice looking leg kick right on the meat of his thigh there.
Esa Akerlund is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Akerlund lands with an overhand left.

It looks like Brais Punk has been cut.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Donk. Akerlund catches Punk right on the button with a cross.
Akerlund throws a sloppy head kick and Punk moves out of range easily.
A right-left combo lands from Akerlund.

Punk is rocked!
Akerlund swinging wildly here.

Akerlund tries to clinch but Punk is having none of it.
Akerlund ducks down and throws a hook to the body.
Punk is breathing heavily.
The fighters circle momentarily. Akerlund darts into range and connects with a nice straight punch.
Akerlund batters Punk with a massive right followed by a huge left! Punk is out on his feet looking like a zombie as Akerlund lands a final crushing right hand to drop Punk to the mat with a gruesome thud! Akerlund is running around like a mad man after that fight and for good reason!
