PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Satoshi Ishii (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Travis High (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Ishii comes into the arena with Global Deejays - "California Dreamin'" blaring out of the sound system. On his way into the ring it seems that Satoshi Ishii has been attacked by a crazed fan! It looks like it might have been the just bleed guy! Luckily Satoshi Ishii seems to be OK! I thought that lunatic was in prison!?

The judges for this bout are Sosuke Kotani, Kenichi Hosakawa and Tatsuya Matsuyama.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Ishii ducks under a wild hook from High.
High throws a hard body shot but it just misses.
Satoshi Ishii seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
High throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Ishii.
A nice inside leg kick there by Ishii. That's going to slow High down.
Ishii will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.
High looks to throw the jab but Ishii is out of range.
Horrible takedown by Ishii or perhaps it was just good defense by High which made him look bad.
Ishii walks forward and throws out a flicking leg kick. High checks it nicely though, as he moves to the side.
Ishii lands with a kick to the ribs.

Ishii lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but High circles away quickly and effectively.
Ishii feints with a shoulder and throws a nice leg kick to High's calf.

Ishii closes the distance and clinches up with High, looking for a takedown. Ishii pushes High against the ropes but High circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Ishii shoots for a takedown but High saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
High displays good takedown defense there as he swats away a double leg from Ishii.
High swings for the body but Ishii moves out of range.

High throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.

Ishii decides to change it up a bit and drives through with a nice takedown into half guard.
The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.

High has hold of Ishii's hands but Ishii slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
The referee walks around the fighters to get a better view of the action. Ishii lands a nice short elbow.

Ishii is trying for a guillotine from the top but the pressure isn't in the right place so High is just riding it out for now. Ishii eventually gives up the hold.

Ishii is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and High defends it well.

High pushes Ishii off looking to stand but Ishii dives back in and keeps control.
High on the receiving end of some nice ground and pound.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Ishii is thinking about going for an arm triangle but he can't free his leg.
High keeping his head moving to avoid the ground and pound.

Ishii throws a strike but High avoids it easily and moves to full guard.
Ishii working some ground and pound from guard but it's not doing any damage.
Ishii stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. High swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Ishii drops back for a leg! It's a sloppy attempt though and Ishii jumps back into guard quickly, to retain the dominant position.
High really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Ishii. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.

Ishii throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
High is looking to stand back up... there's a bit of a scramble and Ishii dives into side control.
The fighters are trapped in the ropes so we're going to have a reposition here. The ref calls for a break and repositions the fighters in the center of the ring.

Ishii is looking to finish here, going for an Americana. High knows the correct defense though, so he's OK.
Ishii misses with a strike but at least he's keeping busy, looking to cause some damage - that will still help him when it comes to the judges scorecards.

High tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Ishii wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if High can do anything to dispel that myth.

Ishii looks up at the clock and then as High takes his cue and looks up at the clock too, Ishii smacks him right in the chops with a big elbow! How rude!

It looks like Travis High has been cut.

High avoids any damage from the ground and pound of Ishii.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Ishii tries to score with some ground and pound. High controls his posture well this time though and the shots don't do any damage.

High throws out a loose jab but Ishii uses good head movement to avoid it.

High blocks a low kick nicely.
High swings and misses with a hook to the body.
It really doesn't seem like the step up in weight is hurting Ishii here at all. He's more than holding his own against the bigger man.

That kick from Ishii tenderised High's leg. High is trying to keep his angry face on.
High rushes forward with a series of wild hooks but Ishii moves out of range and avoids them all easily.
Ishii looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.
High throws an uppercut from half a mile away. Ishii sees it coming and avoids it easily.

The fighters circling - High throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
High tries to check the leg kick but that clearly hurt him.
Ishii looks for a takedown here. Will he get it? High is fending him off so far but Ishii persists. Nope, High circles away and we're back to standing.
Travis High is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.

High is breathing heavily.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!

High jabs Ishii to the body, keeping him at a distance.
Satoshi Ishii is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Ishii wants to clinch up but High keeps it at a distance.

Ishii shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with High but High pushes him off and we're back to square one.

Oooooooooooh, not good. A low kick from Ishii lands where it shouldn't have, right in the... well, you know what he did? He kicked him in the penis. He's injured, injured bad. The referee sends both fighters to their corners and High has 5 minutes to recover. He's OK now though... a thumbs up from High and we're back underway with a touch of gloves.
High stuffs a takedown. It's all about dictating where the fight takes place and High wants it to stay on the feet.
Ishii shoots in looking for a takedown but High manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Ishii's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
High thows a body shot but no joy.

Ishii shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as High sprawls well. High wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Ishii gets slowly back to his feet.

A momentary lapse in concentration from High enables Ishii to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. High manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Ishii drops back looking for a leg! High is in trouble here! The fighters roll with the hold and High manages to kick Ishii off! Ishii jumps back into High's guard.

Ishii sneaks a leg through and gets to half guard. That was like a knife through butter how easily he passed High's guard.
Ishii working some ground and pound from close in. He's looking to maintain this position and strike for a while by the looks of things... although he'll probably advance to full mount in a minute now I've said that.

That has opened up Travis High's cut even more.

Ishii is looking for a kimura. It's pretty deep but High still has the half guard so he's probably OK. Oh, High has exploded into a beautiful escape there and after a quick scramble, he's ended up in side control on top! Nice work!
High wants to lay and pray for a moment but Ishii keeps working.

The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.

Travis High's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at Travis High's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!
