PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Gargoyle Stomp (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Darren Miller (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Gargoyle Stomp!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Darren Miller!
The judges for this bout are Daniel Franklin, Chris Downing and Stewart Dunkirk.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Miller fails with the takedown.
Stomp fails in his attempt to clinch.
Stomp fails with the takedown.
Stomp doesn't manage to clinch there - Miller circles away.
Stomp tries to land a front kick but Miller steps back. That was a bit too telegraphed.

Stomp drives through and clinches with Miller against the cage.

Miller turns his back and goes for a hip toss. It's a bit messy but it gets the job done and Miller manages to end up in side control.
The referee must be thinking about standing these guys back up.
Stomp is looking to regain half guard here but Miller keeps moving and retains side control.
A lull in the action here.
Stomp tries to bench press Miller off him but Miller keeps the position.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Stomp looking for a sweep but Miller has passed into full mount! Oh no!
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Miller controlling his opponent.
A nice elbow there by Miller.
Stomp sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.
Stomp tries to get to full guard but Miller has control of the leg.
Still in half guard, Miller seems content to control.

Miller is trying to work for a kimura but Stomp is defending well.
Stomp wants to control but Miller is keeping busy and won't allow it.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Stomp gets back to full guard.
Stomp manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!
Miller really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Stomp. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Stomp thuds his fist into the canvas! Oooouch!
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Miller tries to reverse the position but Stomp maintains control.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Stomp is in the full mount, landing strikes.
Miller is looking to improve his position but Stomp isn't that keen on the idea.
Stomp throws an elbow from mount that misses. Lucky escape for Miller because Stomp loaded up on that one.
Miller is trying to get to the cage to help him get back to his feet.

Stomp looks like he's working for a submission but he's not found anything just yet.
Miller is squirming around, avoiding Stomp's attempts to control the action.

That's four minutes gone in the round.

Stomp working for a submission but Miller is keeping him at bay.
Stomp tries to control but Miller wriggling away.
Miller wriggling around on the bottom manages to avoid the strikes thrown by Stomp.
We get told so often about how wrestlers don't like to be on their backs. Let's see if Miller can do anything to dispel that myth.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Stomp connects with a couple of good shots from mount.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Gargoyle Stomp dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.


Miller changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Stomp tries to avoid it but Miller manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Stomp to the ground. Stomp escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Miller.
Stomp shoots in looking for a takedown. Miller tries to sprawl out of it but Stomp keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Miller manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Miller throws a body kick but he was well out of range there.

Stomp gets to the clinch - let's see what his plan is here.
Miller will no doubt start fighting again in a minute but for now he's just having a little rest, leaning Stomp up against the cage.
Stomp has hold of a leg and is looking for a trip takedown. Miller avoids it nicely though and we remain in the clinch.

Stomp looks like he'd prefer to be striking at range right now.
Stomp is working hard here but doesn't seem to be able to control effectively, up against the cage.
Stomp drops down looking for an ankle pick but Miller pulls his leg out and moves away.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Gargoyle Stomp. That's going to take a lot out of him.

Miller in side control, throwing shots but Stomp defends.
A lull in the action here as Miller stalls from top position.
Stomp is trying to escape and get back to his feet.

Stomp trying to remain calm as Miller controls from the top position.
Stomp is trying to improve his position.
Stomp can't do much from the bottom here.
Stomp takes a nasty elbow to the side of the head.
Miller throws a knee to the body but it doesn't do much damage.

Stomp is looking to regain half guard here but Miller keeps moving and retains side control.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
A bit of a lull in the action. I'm sure it will pick up again soon... even if the ref has to physically pick them up and put them back on their feet.
Miller advances to full mount.
Stomp is trying desperately to improve position.
Miller takes a little breather and maintains the position. The referee will be looking for him to stay active from such a dominant position though.
The crowd growing excited in anticipation of a finish here! Right on cue, Miller cracks his opponent with a massive right hand that draws loud cheers!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Miller avoids the attempt from Stomp to control.

Miller wants to finish this one by submission but Stomp is holding onto his waist, trying to prevent any attacks from Miller.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Darren Miller showed his class in that round. I'd imagine he'll take it on all the scorecards.
The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!


Stomp misses with a takedown attempt - Miller sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Stomp moves to clinch but Miller breaks away

and Miller counters with a nice single leg takedown and he's in Stomp's guard now.

Miller with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
Miller trying to land body shots but he keeps hitting the mat.
Both fighters are breathing heavily.
Miller is frustrating his opponent with some stalling tactics from top position.
Stomp trying to keep a closed guard but Miller is proving a slippery customer.
Stomp can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Miller controls the pace.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Stomp gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily

and Miller counters with a nice double leg into side control. Stomp won't be happy with that.

Miller landing with strikes to the head and body from side control.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Stomp struggling a bit here.

Darren Miller has got the better of the ground game so far.
Miller is chipping away with strikes.
A lull in the action here.
Let's hope that Miller has the urge to step up the pace any second now because for the last 15 or 20 seconds he's just been holding on tight.

Stomp is pushing Miller's head away, looking to escape. Miller manages to hold on to the position though.
Miller lands a few punches from side control.
Miller just content to control the position.
Miller's corner are shouting for him to control the position and he seems happy to oblige.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

And that's the end of the fight!
Darren Miller comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Miller has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
