PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Henry Beninth (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Samuel Stone (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Stone comes into a darkened arena with his song building. bottinekes kicks in, the lights come on and the crowd goes wild! What a showman! I don't know about you partner, but I'm pumped for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 5 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Henry Beninth!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 3 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Samuel Stone!
The judges for this bout are Taro Takaoka, Tatsuya Matsuyama and Shigeki Fujiwara.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Beninth doesn't manage to clinch there - Stone circles away.

Stone scores with a takedown into Beninth's guard.
Stone controlling from the top position.
Beninth looking for a sweep. Not yet Beninth, not yet.
Beninth is working from a closed guard but he's struggling to control his opponent.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Beninth managing to control the position.

Beninth is active off his back here, looking for submissions.
Stone must be cautious of submissions here, given that his opponent has the superior Jiu Jitsu.

Stone drops back looking for a heel hook - he quickly realises he's not going to get it but Beninth manages to dive on top of him before he can escape and now Stone has Beninth in his guard.

Stone pulls Beninth in to control the position.
Stone looking to hit a scissor sweep but Beninth is one step ahead there.
Beninth wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Stone wants to control here, rather than go for any submissions from the bottom. At least for now.

Stone looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Stone is avoiding any damage by keeping wrist control.
Beninth pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stone is keeping the position for now.

Stone working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Beninth doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Beninth manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.
Beninth pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Stone is keeping the position for now.

Stone tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Beninth wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Beninth postures up in Stone's guard and throws a big left but Stone blocks it.

Stone has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Beninth can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Beninthis looking to pass into half guard but Stone pushes him away with his feet and jumps on top - now Stone is in guard.

Stone trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Beninth manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

A close round but Samuel Stone will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


Stone takes a head kick and keeps coming.


It looks like Samuel Stone has been cut.
Beninth stuffs the takedown attempt from Stone. Stone gets slowly back to his feet.
Stone shoots in looking for a takedown. Beninth tries to sprawl out of it but Stone keeps driving through. The fighters are pinned against the cage. Beninth manages to get underhooks and after a bit of a struggle, circles away and we're back to standing.
Beninth lands a jab, followed by a cross and another cross, as Stone backs up against the cage.

Stone drives through with a takedown into Beninth's guard. Let's see what he can do from the top position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Stone slips nicely into half guard.
Stone wants to advance to full mount but Beninth doesn't think that's going to happen and regains full guard instead.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Stone won't allow Beninth to sweep him here.
Beninth is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.

Stone is staying active underneath Beninth, who seems content to just control the action from this position.

Beninth is working for submissions here but there's nothing on.

Beninth is looking for an arm triangle, whilst trying to pass to side control. Stone doesn't seem that keen to cooperate though. No luck this time Beninth.
Stone manages to get to full guard.

Stone keeping moving, preventing Beninth from controlling successfully.
Stone has his hands on Beninth's head, controlling the position.

Beninth wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.
Stone pulls Beninth in close to his closed guard and prevents Beninth from doing any damage or advancing position.

We're going to have a standup here because Henry Beninth wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Beninth slips in close and lands a nice hook before moving back out of range.
Stone dives in and grabs Beninth's left leg, looking for a takedown. Beninth pushes down on Stone's head and hops out.
Henry Beninth has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Samuel Stone.
Nice sprawl there from Beninth as Stone shoots in.

Stone shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.
Beninth leaves Stone with his face pressed against the mat as he sprawls beautifully, defending against a solid takedown attempt.
No luck with that takedown attempt from Stone.
Beninth scores with a leg kick.
Stone is breathing heavily.
Stone fails to land the takedown.

Stone closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Beninth's guard.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!
Beninth bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Stone's guard.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Beninth is looking to stand up but Stone won't let him.
Beninth trying to control but Stone is working from the bottom.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Henry Beninth dominated that second round.
The cut man is working on Samuel Stone's cut.
That's time! Beninth's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight. This is the final round!



Stone closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Beninth did well to prevent Stone getting side control.
Stone passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Beninth!
Beninth tries to get back to half guard but can't.
Beninth is squirming around, avoiding Stone's attempts to control the action.
Beninth regains half guard.
Beninth trying to keep hold of his opponent's head but Stone manages to pass to mount!

Stone is looking to secure an arm. He's managed it! He's pivoting for an armbar - that looks tight! But Beninth has managed to get out of it and now he's in a dominant position. Nice work from Beninth!
Samuel Stone has got the better of the ground game so far.
Beninth stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Stone swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Beninth wants to control from the top but Stone keeps moving.
Stone looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

Stone has his foot on Beninth's thigh. He's trying to push off and get in position for a triangle, I think. Beninth works his way back into a safe position though.
Beninth won't allow Stone to sweep him here.
Beninth trying to control but Stone is working from the bottom.

The referee is asking the fighters to pick up the pace.
Stone looking for a sweep. Not yet Stone, not yet.
Stone seems keen to control rather than go for a submission, at least for now.

The ref stands the fighters back up because Henry Beninth just wasn't active enough.

Stone looking to score a takedown here. Beninth is defending well but Stone drives through and ends up in Beninth's guard.

Beninth is trying to keep Stone in close.

Stone passes Beninth's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Beninth wants to improve his position but Stone is controlling well.
Stone wants to pass the guard but Beninth is defending well.
Beninth wants to control but Stone is keeping busy and won't allow it.

Stone is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.
Stone content to control rather than advance.

Beninth is defending against the submission attempts here by Stone.
Beninth trying to hold on to Stone's head to control him but Stone postures up.
Beninth is pressing down on Stone's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Beninth can't do much from the bottom at the moment, as Stone controls the pace.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.

I think Stone has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
