PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Carl Barat (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Redof Castro (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Barat comes into the arena with You can't stand me now blaring out of the sound system. Redof Castro is staring across the cage at his opponent, tweaking his nipples.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 3 - 3 - 0, fighting out of London, Carl Barat!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Redof Castro!
The judges for this bout are William Gold, Colin Fotheringham and Steven Brown.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Castro looking to take his opponent's legs away with the low kicks.
Castro connects with a leg kick. He turned his hip over nicely there.
Castro looks shocked there as he takes a right hand to the temple.
Castro shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Barat as he jumps to the side.
Barat will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Barat lands three nice shots there - that looked like it hurt!


It looks like Redof Castro has been cut.
Castro shoots in but Barat avoids the takedown attempt easily.
Barat tries to bum rush Castro with a series of wild strikes but Castro uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Castro looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
Castro is looking to take a break and control but Barat is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Barat is holding on to half guard well.

Castro seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Barat does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

The crowd are getting on the fighters' backs, as the pace has dropped off in the last minute or so.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.
Barat throws a nice looking combination but Castro bobs and weaves to avoid any damage.
Barat misses with an attempted mid kick.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Castro.
Carl Barat has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Redof Castro.
Castro will have to do better than that with his takedown attempts.

Castro tries to bum rush Barat with a series of wild strikes but Barat uses good footwork to avoid the assault.

Barat thows a leg kick but Castro checks it
and Castro counters with a leg kick that reverborates around the arena.
Castro tries to shoot in for a takedown. He's got hold of a leg but Barat swivels and escapes.
Barat throws a combination but comes up with nothing but fresh air.
Castro shoots in for a takedown. "I don't think so" says Barat as he avoids it easily.
Castro tries for a takedown but Barat sees it coming a mile off and avoids it easily.
Barat uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.
Barat lands a vicious shot with the stealth of a sniper and the strength of a viper. Are vipers that strong? I can think of lots of things that are stronger than a viper - not many rhyme with sniper though.

and Castro counters with a single leg into guard. Barat didn't expect that.

A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Castro accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Castro advances position into side control!

Castro thinks about going for a far side armbar but bails out and retains the dominant position instead.
Castro is working Barat over with some ground and pound from side control.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Barat pushes Castro away and creates a bit of space to escape. He's almost out here... but no, Castro gets a good hold of his legs and remains firmly in side control.
Barat manages to work his way to half guard, despite Castro's best efforts.
Barat wants to control but Castro is keeping busy.
Castro stops Barat from getting back to his feet.

That's four minutes gone in the round.
A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.
Castro works his way into full mount!
Castro prevents Barat from getting the reversal.
Barat throws a strike but has given up his back in the process.

The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Barat tries to escape the position - he's now mounted. Is that better or worse? Hard to tell!

Castro stands up from the dominant position. He obviously fancies his chances standing.
Castro avoids a lazy jab quite easily.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters' corners scream their final instructions, as the referee calls time. Here we go, back to the action!

Barat throws a right and a left that Castro avoids nicely.

Carl Barat is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.

We've had a slow start to the round here - hopefully the action picks up.
Barat lands a jab-cross combination.
Castro is breathing heavily.
Castro takes a shot to the body in his stride.
Castro scores to the head and body with a nice combination!
Barat lands a jab followed by a vicious hook that sends Castro sprawling to the canvas. Barat follows him down, looking for the kill. Can Castro hang on?

This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Barat is figuring out what he wants to do next.

Barat prevents Castro from standing back up.
Barat seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.
Barat looking to pass the half guard. Not this time.
Barat with a momentary lay and pray from half guard.
Castro is looking for a sweep. Barat is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

A lull in the action here being met with boos from the crowd.
Barat is controlling the pace.
Castro wants to control but Barat is keeping busy.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Barat uses his free foot to push down on Castro's thigh. Eventually he works his other foot free and he's advanced to mount - this is trouble for Castro.

Barat has hold of Castro's left arm, perhaps looking for a submission. The two fighters tussle over control of the isolated limb and Castro manages to get his arm back to his side and away from danger.

Castro makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Castro.
Barat connects with a couple of short punches.
Barat stopping the sweep attempt from Castro.
Barat throws a big right hand that misses.
Barat not doing a lot at the moment. He'll have to show some more aggression or the fight will get stood up.

The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action. This is the final round!


Barat swings and misses with a hook to the body.
Barat uses good footwork to get in and out and land a nice right hand before Castro has time to react.
Barat swings wildly with a couple of big hooks
and Castro finishes the little exchange by landing a big kick to the body.
Barat misses with a few strikes there.
Castro changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Barat tries to avoid it but Castro manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Barat to the ground. Barat escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.

No luck for Castro with that takedown attempt.

Barat throws a series of punches but Castro moves out of range.

Barat wants to stand and escape but Castro is having none of it.

Castro thinks about going for a leg but decides against it, in order to maintain the position.

Barat scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Barat wants to slow Castro down by chopping away at his legs.
Barat lands a nice shot to the body.
Barat throws a sloppy head kick and Castro moves out of range easily.
Barat throws a head kick that misses

so Castro counters with a double leg into guard. Good agility.

Castro controlling from the top position.
Castro tries to free his leg and advance position but Barat is retaining full guard.
Castro passes Barat's right leg, so he's now in half guard.

Barat tries to get to full guard but Castro has control of the leg.

Barat is pressing down on Castro's left leg trying to get back to full guard. He's managed it.
Castro looking to sit in guard and control but Barat gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.

Barat is just sitting in guard, looking to avoid any submissions.

Castro has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Barat can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Redof Castro has stepped it up - he knows he needs a finish here!

Barat stands up and waves to Castro to follow him.

And that's the end of the fight!
Redof Castro comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Barat has won this one but let's see what the judges have to say. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
