PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Oktawian August (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Mark Slystarr (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). August comes to the cage accompanied by Hit 'em up. Slystarr is bobbing his head along to his entrance song: Kool Savas - Tot oder Lebendig/Mona Lisa. Both fighters look pumped up here. Let's hope this is a good fight!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Hilo, Mark Slystarr!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Slystarr missing with a left hand there. August was out of range so wasted energy throwing that one.

Slystarr shoots in and bounces August off the cage to secure the takedown into guard.
Slystarr won't allow August to get back to his feet.
Slystarr trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but August manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!

Slystarr looks to be working for a triangle here. Oh, it looks like he might have it! August has picked Slystarr up and slammed him! Slystarr can't keep hold of the triangle and August manages to pass to side control!
Slystarr tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but August wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.

Slystarr tries to get to full guard but August has control of the leg.
August tries to pass the half guard into mount. Slystarr knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Slystarr wants to improve his position but August is controlling well.

August wants to stand up but Slystarr is controlling the position.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Slystarr gets back to full guard.
Slystarr not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.

August won't allow Slystarr to sweep him here.
Slystarr wants to control but instead he gets his guard passed and August is now in half guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Slystarr makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Slystarr.

August stands up from guard. Let's bang!

Slystarr manages to get an easy takedown there - catching August on his heels. He'll look to pass August's guard now, I'm sure.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Slystarr controlling from the guard. I say controlling but really, he's stalling.
Slystarr trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.

Slystarr trying to move into half guard but instead August has managed to sweep!
August's corner is telling him to maintain position.
August wants to stand but Slystarr is controlling his posture from full guard.
Slystarr looking to hit a scissor sweep but August is one step ahead there.

Slystarr escapes his hips to the side and looks to be working for an armbar. August gives him a little smile and shakes his head. No chance.

Slystarr looking for subs off his back but August has passed one foot through into half guard.
Slystarr is not content to let August control the position.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Mark Slystarr dominated that round.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business.


Slystarr swings away but doesn't land with a series of punches.
August misses with a straight right.
August throws a right and a left that both miss.
Slystarr circles away from the clinch attempt.
August swings away with a leg kick that misses.
Slystarr showing good head movement there, avoiding the strikes from August.

Slystarr closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Slystarr lands in his opponent's guard.

The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.

The ref stands the fighters back up, due to lack of action by Mark Slystarr.
August throws a leg kick but Slystarr sees it coming and moves out of range.
Slystarr fakes high and swings low for a body shot but August manages to avoid it.
August displays some good footwork, moving neatly out of range as Slystarr throws out the jab.
August tries to close the distance and clinch up against the cage but Slystarr paws at him with a jab and circles away.
Slystarr scores with a sloppy punch to the body. Not much technique there but it did the business.
Slystarr shoots for a takedown but August saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Nice body punch from Slystarr.

August wants to clinch.
Sloppy strikes from August. Those never looked like landing.
August throws a leg kick but Slystarr sees it coming and checks it nicely.
August loads up on a big right hand but Slystarr slips the punch.
Slystarr throws an off balance right hand
and August counters with a crisp hook to the side of the head.
Oktawian August is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Slystarr cracks August with a good jab.
Slystarr misses with a wild body shot.
Mark Slystarr seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Slystarr ducks under a wild hook from August.
August throws a combination but it was largely blocked by Slystarr.

Slystarr shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. August is trying to defend but Slystarr finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Mark Slystarr has got the better of the ground game so far.

OK we're going to have a standup here. Mark Slystarr hasn't been effective enough on the ground and the referee wants a restart.
August avoids the body shot from Slystarr.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.
August lands a really nice looking cross but Slystarr seems unphased.
Boom, another hit is landed. "You're gunna get knocked out" taunts August, as that shot connected.
Slystarr catches August with a nice straight right. He seems pissed - ooooh, it's on now! On like donkey kong!
Ouch! a nice leg kick from August, right into the meat.
Slystarr connects with a looping right hand.
August tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Slystarr circles away from the clinch attempt.
Slystarr misses with an uppercut
and August counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Slystarr throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Slystarr misses with a jab, cross combination.
Slystarr connects with a looping right hand.
August stalks Slystarr and leaps in with a furious combination of punches. Uppercuts and crosses smash into Slystarr's face. Slystarr staggers backwards, shaken.


It looks like Mark Slystarr has been cut.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
August's corner calls for a 1-2. August obliges with the 1 part as he scores the single shot and moves back out of range.
Slystarr pushing out the jab but it's not landing.
August fakes a jab and then connects with a hook.
Slystarr has his front leg slapped to the side - a nice low kick landing there from August.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close second round but I would say that Oktawian August will probably get the nod.
The cut man is working on Mark Slystarr's cut.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!

The ref stands the fighters back up because Oktawian August just wasn't active enough.
August looks to score with a jab to the body but Slystarr is just out of range.
August takes a jab right on the nose. That must have hurt but he shrugs his shoulders and looks to return the favor.

Slystarr misses with a few strikes there.
August slaps away a takedown attempt from Slystarr, before circling back to the center of the mat.
August throws a right hand that Slystarr ducks under and follows up with a left that Slystarr also avoids with ease.
Slystarr misses with a hook. August ducked under it nicely.
Slystarr throws a jab when August was well out of range.
Jab, cross, leg kick. Nice combination by Slystarr!

Slystarr looking for a kimura but he'll have to free his other leg if he wants to finish that. Perhaps he's just using it as a distraction technique.

The crowd are showing their displeasure at the lack of action as loud boos ring out around the arena.
Slystarr trying to control the action but August is working from the bottom.

August has one foot on Slystarr's thigh - he pushes off and manages to get back to his feet.
Slystarr thows a body shot but no joy.
Oktawian August is winning the standup battle so far.
A jab from August does it's job there.

And that's the end of the fight!
Mark Slystarr comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Slystarr has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
