PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Chung Lee (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Edward Mendez (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Lee might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to $ Ka-Ching $ Shania Twain. Mendez has chosen Big Pun-Dream Shatterer as his entrance music. Mendez has a niggling injury. He would have liked to come in 100% fit but that's not always possible. The key to victory for Chung Lee has got to be keeping the fight on the feet.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Chung Lee!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 11 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Edward Mendez!
The judges for this bout are Yasuomi Hirokawa, Sosuke Kotani and Yukihiro Yamamoto.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Mendez with a lazy takedown attempt
and Lee counters with a flying knee. Nice.

Lee fakes with an overhand right and moves in to clinch with Mendez, pushing him back against the cage.

Lee breaks the clinch and we return to the middle of the mat.
Mendez tries for a takedown but Lee circles away easily
and Lee makes the exchange count by landing a cracking kick to the body. Mendez really felt that one!
Mendez looks gassed!
This has been an exciting period of action!

Lee gets a clinch.

Lee manages to break the clinch.

Lee scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.

Lee decides to stand up, so the ref orders Mendez to his feet.

Lee is looking for a takedown here. He's shot in and has managed to get it, finishing up in Mendez's half guard.

Lee is trying a forearm choke… I don't think that's going to do much at this level of the game.

Lee is trying to control the action in half guard but Mendez is working away on the bottom, looking perhaps to get back to full guard.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

Lee decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Edward Mendez seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Mendez has his takedown stuffed

and Lee counters with a takedown into side control.
Chung Lee has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Edward Mendez.
Lee cracks Mendez with an elbow. That is naaassty.
Lee has been looking to land a fair amount of strikes on the ground. He might be looking to soften his opponent up in order to work for a submission.

Lee tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Lee has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!
Lee trying to control the position but Mendez is working away.

Lee stands up and beckons Mendez to his feet.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!

Lee lands a big head kick that sends Mendez tumbling to the mat! Lee takes a step backwards and waves Mendez back to his feet - he wants the finish!

Mendez is rocked!

It looks like Edward Mendez has been cut.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Lee gets in close and instigates a clinch.
Mendez is still on wobbly legs! Can Lee finish him?

Lee is trying to trip Mendez. He has hold of a leg but Mendez is hopping around, keeping his balance for the moment. Lee persists though and gets the takedown into guard.
Lee is pushing down on Mendez's leg trying to pass to half guard. Mendez is fighting to maintain full guard but Lee has managed to sneak the leg through.
The referee calls for the fighters to work.

Lee stands up from half guard.

Lee closes the distance looking for a takedown. Mendez stuffs it but Lee still has hold of him. Lee picks Mendez up in a fireman's lift! The crowd roars in approval. Lee slams Mendez to the floor and that's really hurt Mendez - he doesn't know where he is! Lee throws a couple of strikes and the referee steps in to save him! This one is in the books!
