PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a light heavyweight MMA rules bout between Robbie Brawler (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Matthew Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Brawler comes to the cage accompanied by Nelly - E.I.. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the light heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 7 - 6 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Robbie Brawler!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Matthew Steele!
The judges for this bout are Tatsuya Matsuyama, Hirohito Nitta and Yukihiro Shimada.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Brawler throws an ugly left hook that misses

and Steele counters with a nice double leg into guard.
Brawler keeping moving, preventing Steele from controlling successfully.
Steele passes Brawler's right leg, so he's now in half guard.
Steele is stalling here. Brawler is in no mood to hang around though. He's locked up a kimura from the bottom! Steele seems to be keeping calm but he's forced to roll out of the hold and Brawler has ended up in side control on the top. Nice work.

Brawler decides to stand up, so the ref orders Steele to his feet.
Steele shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Brawler pinned against the cage. Brawler gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Brawler slaps away a takedown attempt from Steele, before circling back to the center of the mat.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Brawler takes a swing at Steele's ribcage but misses.

Brawler misses with a looping left.
Brawler scores with a head kick.
Steele steps to the side to avoid the strikes from Brawler.
Steele changes levels and looks for a double leg takedown. Brawler tries to avoid it but Steele manages to keep hold of a leg and drag Brawler to the ground. Brawler escapes though and pops straight back up to his feet.
Robbie Brawler has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Matthew Steele.
Steele moves away from the strike by Brawler.
Steele shoots in with a takedown attempt and he has Brawler pinned against the cage. Brawler gets the underhooks and manages to circle away.
Brawler throws a body kick, spinning off balance

and Steele counters with a nice double leg into side control. Brawler won't be happy with that.
Brawler wants to control but Steele postures up.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Steele throwing strikes but Brawler manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Steele is looking to regain half guard here but Brawler keeps moving and retains side control.

Brawler gets to his feet - back to striking we go!

and Steele counters with a takedown into full mount! That could mean trouble for Brawler!

Poor strikes thrown by Steele there. More accuracy and less frantic strikes would help!

Steele jumps to the side looking to secure the arm triangle…. Ooooh, that looks tight… Brawler is gargling but he's managed to escape! Nice work there by Brawler and Steele has given up the dominant position trying to land that submission.

Steele is trying to land an Americana. He has the arm isolated but Brawler is keeping cool and he's avoided the danger for now.
Steele is trying to ground and pound but Brawler uses the momentary lack of control by Steele to regain half guard.

Brawler is looking for a sweep. Steele is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.

Steele is looking for a kimura but Brawler is holding onto that half guard position, so it's hard for Steele to get the leverage.
Brawler is looking to improve his position.
Brawler blocking the ground and pound attempt from Steele.
Brawler wants to control but Steele is keeping busy.

Steele is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Brawler sees it coming and defends easily.

Steele is working for a submission of some sort.

Steele is working for a kimura but Brawler is defending it quite comfortably.
Brawler is trying to stand.

That's six minutes gone in the round.
The crowd are starting to boo a lack of action.
Brawler is looking to improve his position.
Brawler wants to get back to his feet.
Brawler tries to roll over but Steele keeps him under control.
Steele working to pass to mount. He's got his hand pressing down on Brawler's thigh. Brawler counters though and makes it back to full guard.
Brawler looking to sweep here. No luck so far.

That's seven minutes gone in the round.
Steele trying to pass the guard. He's being very persistent here but Brawler manages to land a sweep and now he's on top!
Steele wants to sweep but no luck.

Brawler decides he's had enough of playing guard and decides to stand. Come on Steele, up you get!
Brawler swings widly with a right hand

and Steele holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Steele has Brawler pressed up against the cage and is working for takedown. Brawler manages to improve position though and keeps the fight standing.
Steele tries for a takedown. No joy.
Steele is looking for a takedown up against the cage. Brawler gets underhooks though and prevents the takedown attempt.

That's eight minutes gone in the round.
Steele has a body lock and is looking for a takedown. Brawler is bouncing around trying to prevent the takedown and somehow he has indeed managed to stay on his feet.

Brawler lands with a light punch inside.
Steele tries for a takedown but Brawler manages to get underhooks.
Brawler misses the knee to the body. Nice hip positioning from Steele.
Brawler lands with a good tight uppercut to the head.
Brawler prevents a takedown attempt there.
Brawler is clearly stalling here... Pick up the pace son.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Steele throws a vicious knee straight up the middle but Brawler blocks it with crossed arms.

That's nine minutes gone in the round.
Steele throws a knee to the head but misses.
Brawler is pressed up against the cage. Steele has hold of a leg and is looking to drag Brawler down to the mat. Brawler avoids the attempt though and has circled away. We're back to striking at a distance.
Brawler works over Steele's head and body with a nice combination.
Steele avoids the body shot from Brawler.
Brawler uses decent footwork to sidestep a right hand from Steele.
Brawler throws a jab but it's blocked by Steele.
Steele throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Brawler's waist but Brawler gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Steele off to one side.
Brawler lands a head kick!


Steele is rocked!
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Brawler lands a big right hook! Steele looks hurt but is still standing! Brawler lands a left jab and another right hook! This time Steele falls down and Brawler dives in with a huge hammer fist! Steele's eyes roll back! The referee calls for the bell and Brawler runs up the cage to celebrate with his fans!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 9:47 of round 1, we have a winner by way of KO (Punches). Robbie Brawler!
