PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a heavyweight MMA rules bout between Orlando Noriega (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and George Steele (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Noriega might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to GO TO SLEEP. Rumors backstage are that the fighters have been paid to keep it standing but we know that would never happen in MMA!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the heavyweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 22 - 4 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Orlando Noriega!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 15 - 7 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, George Steele!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Noriega slips under a jab.
Steele misses with a hook.
Decent striking displayed by Steele there.
Steele throws out a token jab with nothing on it.
George Steele seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Steele moves away from the strike by Noriega.
Noriega looks to score with a jab to the body but Steele is just out of range.
Noriega throws a push kick but Steele slaps the foot to one side.
Steele takes an uppercut right on the jaw but it doesn't phase him.


It looks like George Steele has been cut.
Noriega throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Steele bobs and weaves and throws out a fast jab that snaps Noriega's head backwards.
Steele works over Noriega's head and body with a nice combination.


It looks like Orlando Noriega has been cut.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Steele swings wildly with a right hand that was never going to find it's target.

Noriega gets the takedown into side control.
Noriega trying to control the position but Steele is working away.
Steele dodges the ground and pound from Noriega.

Noriega throwing strikes but Steele manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Noriega can't do much from the bottom here.

Steele wants to lay and pray for a moment but Noriega keeps working.
Noriega is looking to reverse the position.

The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Noriega tries to bench press Steele off him but Steele keeps the position.

Noriega is looking for a sweep.
Noriega is trying to work for a sweep but Steele has mounted him!
Steele cracks Noriega with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Noriega slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
Noriega is doing well to avoid being mounted. He's controlling the position at the moment.
Steele prevents Noriega from improving his position.
Noriega moves into full guard.

This has been an exciting period of action!
Noriega is staying active underneath Steele, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Steele not landing any meaningful shots this time.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Orlando Noriega will probably get the nod.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's the end of the round. The referee orders the cornermen out of the cage so we can get back down to business.


Noriega looks to land a left hand but Steele moved out of range nicely.

Noriega pulls out of a head kick attempt.

and Steele counters with a good right hand that lands right on the jaw.
A big left from Steele misses.
Steele looks to throw the jab but Noriega is out of range.
Steele throws a monster uppercut resembling something out of street fighter but it doesn't land.
Steele throws a lazy right hand but Noriega sees it coming a mile off and sidesteps it easily.

Noriega digs a good body shot into Steele's ribs.
Noriega takes one on the chin but seems OK.
A jab from Noriega does it's job there.
Noriega throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Noriega dodges the punch combination from Steele.

Noriega closes the distance and presses his opponent up against the cage.
Steele has Noriega pushed against the cage.

Noriega manages to break the clinch.
Noriega lands with a nice low kick. That'll leave a bruise.
George Steele is looking to keep the fight on the feet at all costs.
Steele is breathing heavily.
The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here.
Noriega misses with a looping right.
Noriega lands with a cross to side of his opponent's head.

Steele lands a head shot.
Noriega uses good footwork to avoid the strikes from Steele.
Noriega uses good footwork to get in and out, landing a nice hook.


That has opened up George Steele's cut even more.
Steele keeping a good distance there, avoiding the body shot.

Noriega bobs and weaves into range and then changes levels and scores with a nice takedown into side control.
Noriega creates a bit of distance and throws down some hard shots.
Noriega trying to control the position but Steele is working away.
Noriega throwing strikes but Steele manages to buck up and roll into a nice reversal - now he's on top in side control!
Steele moving around in side mount but really he's just happy to control for now.
Noriega manages to land a sweep and he's now on top! Lovely Jiu Jitsu!

Noriega is trying to work for a kimura. This could be trouble! No, Steele has managed to free his arm - good work.
Steele makes his way to full guard. A much better position for Steele.
Noriega trying to control the position from guard on top but Steele is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Noriega throwing shots from guard but he's hitting more mat than opponent.
Steele keeping moving, preventing Noriega from controlling successfully.
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Steele not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
Noriega looking to sit in guard and control but Steele gets the butterfly guard and sweeps. He's now in the guard on the top.
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!
Steele lands a couple of elbows.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Orlando Noriega dominated that second round.
Both fighters have cut men working on them during the interval.
That's time! Noriega's corner gives him a slap on the ass as he gets ready to fight.


Steele lunges in with swinging rights and lefts but Noriega circles away quickly and effectively.
Noriega slips a jab from Steele.
Noriega misses with a body shot.
The fighters circling - Steele throws out the jab but it was never going to land.
Noriega throws a leg kick which misses Steele's front leg but catches the back leg as Steele tries to avoid it.
Steele will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Noriega shoots in looking for a takedown but Steele manages to keep the fight standing, pushing Noriega's face into the canvas for good measure before circling away.
A jab from Steele misses.
Steele throws a poor cross that misses
and Noriega counters with a stiff right hand.


The cut above George Steele's eye is starting to cause him problems now.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Noriega tries a switch kick but it misses it's target.
Noriega scores with a shot to the body.
Steele takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.
Steele staying out of range there.

Noriega moves out of range of the strikes.
Noriega lands a head shot.


George Steele's cut is absolute horrible now. This looks like something out of a horror film with blood covering both fighters.

The referee calls the doctor in to look at George Steele's cut. Oh no, the doctor has called an end to the bout!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:17 of round 3, we have a winner by way of TKO (Cut). Orlando Noriega!
Orlando Noriega retains his heavyweight title!
