PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Mckenzie Sundstrom (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Maximus Meridius (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). We have two fighters making their debuts here, so let's see who comes out of this one with their first professional victory.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Mckenzie Sundstrom!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Las Vegas, Maximus Meridius!
The judges for this bout are Robert Twigg, George Francis and Tiny Johnson.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Meridius gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.

Meridius looking for submissions from the bottom here. Moving his hips around, possibly looking for an armbar.
Sundstrom knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Meridius on the ground.

Meridius wants to sweep here but Sundstrom controlling him for the moment.
Sundstrom has to be careful here, sitting in the guard of a superior BJJ player.

Sundstrom is sitting in guard, working some ground and pound.
Sundstrom cracks Meridius with a solid left hand.

Meridius wants to sweep but no luck.

Meridius working from the bottom, still in full guard. He's managed to get a loose triangle. Sundstrom doesn't seem to be doing much to defend here, obviously he feels comfortable in the position. Sundstrom manages to throw the legs off his shoulder and he's back into guard - no problem.

Sundstrom pushes down on Meridius's leg and manages to get into half guard.
Meridius wants to control but Sundstrom is keeping busy.
Sundstrom lands with an elbow from half guard - that looked like it hurt.

Meridius is looking to sinch up a gullotine here but Sundstrom pulls his head out easily.

Sundstrom slows the pace down in half guard.
The fighters are going at a pretty good pace and they're both starting to sweat now.
Meridius wants to get back to full guard.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Sundstrom connects with a nice short shot to Meridius's temple.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sundstrom has decided to stand back up but his arm is trapped. Whilst he's worrying about his arm, Meridius works to full guard.

Sundstrom trying to pass the guard but can't manage it just yet.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sundstrom seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up.

Meridius looking for a guillotine here but Sundstrom defends easily.

The referee stands the fighters back up. Mckenzie Sundstrom just wasn't active enough from the dominant position.
Sundstrom throws a wild combination but nothing lands.
Meridius blocks a head kick by Sundstrom.

Sundstrom shoots in for a takedown and gets it. Oh and he's advanced to full mount straight away.
Sundstrom scores with a couple of good head shots there.
Sundstrom tries to control but Meridius wriggling away.
Meridius gets back to half guard.
Sundstrom looks over to his corner - he wants some instructions but his corner are not responding.
Meridius has hold of Sundstrom's hands but Sundstrom slips his arm to the side and lands an elbow.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

That was a close round but I would say that Mckenzie Sundstrom will probably get the nod.
The corners get their ten second warning. Both fighters stand from their stools and stare eachother down, ready to get back to the action.


A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Sundstrom.
Sundstrom is looking to land body kicks.
Meridius doesn't succeed with the takedown
and Sundstrom counters with a lovely shot to the body.

Meridius feints and then dives in with a takedown. That was a long way out but the feint bought him enough time to close the distance and complete the takedown. Now we'll play guard for a bit and see who can get the better of that position.
Meridius stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Sundstrom swivels though and keeps the full guard.

Sundstrom has a loose triangle. He'll be looking to tighten that up but Meridius can see exactly what he's planning and manages to posture up and free himself.
Sundstrom utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
A big thud reverberates around the arena there as Meridius accidentally thumps the mat. Hopefully he's not broken his hand.
Meridius wants to stand but Sundstrom is controlling his posture from full guard.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Meridius tries to free his leg and advance position but Sundstrom is retaining full guard.
Maximus Meridius has got the better of the ground game so far.

Meridius trying to control the position from guard on top but Sundstrom is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.

Well, the referee has seen enough. Neither fighter is active enough on the ground so he's stood them back up.

Sundstrom shoots in for a takedown and gets it.

Sundstrom controls the pace of the fight for a moment.

Meridius is looking for a triangle but Sundstrom pushes his legs off easily.

Meridius looking for a triangle here. Sundstrom is fighting it but it looks tight! Meridius pulls the arm across and this one won't last much longer! Nope, Sundstrom is tapping out - this one is all over!
