Coming up we have a welterweight MMA rules bout between Scuba Stevess (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Phil Gilbert (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Well, the cameraman is lingering on a pretty young lady for a bit too long there. Keep your eyes on the fighters buddy or you'll miss the fighter intros!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, in the welterweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 3 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Scuba Stevess!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 4 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Montreal, Phil Gilbert!
The judges for this bout are Gregory Folan, Yves DeLean and William Peck.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!

Gilbert clinches.

Stevess breaks from the clinch.
Phil Gilbert seems to be the more aggressive standup fighter in this bout.
Gilbert uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Stevess.

Stevess drops Gilbert with a beautiful combination! Gilbert stares up at his opponent, who ushers him back to his feet - Stevess is looking for the KO!


It looks like Phil Gilbert has been cut.
The fight stays on the outside here - Stevess looks like he's thinking about clinching though.
Gilbert lands the left hand.

Stevess gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Gilbert trying to control the position from guard on top but Stevess is wriggling around, looking for whatever he can.
Gilbert advances position into side control!
Gilbert wants to lay and pray for a moment but Stevess keeps working.
Stevess is pushing Gilbert's head away, looking to escape. Gilbert manages to hold on to the position though.
Gilbert taking a break here but Stevess is having none of it and regains half guard.

Gilbert is working for a kimura but Stevess is defending it quite comfortably.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Gilbert scoring with strikes to the body and head.
Gilbert slips a nice elbow through Stevess's hands, connecting with Stevess's forehead.
Gilbert tries to pass the half guard into mount. Stevess knows what he's doing though and prevents the attempt.
Stevess wants to get back to his feet.
The two fighters exchange a few words. I couldn't hear what they were saying but maybe it's more fun if you make it up yourself. Gilbert connects with a nice short shot to Stevess's temple.
The fighters are tangled up in the ropes here. We might need a restart if the fighters can't break free themselves.
Gilbert stalling.
Stevess wants to get back to his feet.

Gilbert is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Stevess sees it coming and defends easily.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gilbert is controlling the pace.
Stevess tries to kick Gilbert off but Gilbert keeps his base steady and stays in half guard.
Stevess is staying active underneath Gilbert, who seems content to just control the action from this position.
Stevess is trying to stand.
Gilbert passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Stevess!
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
The crowd are going absolutely nuts as the round comes to an end - what a fantastic round of action!

Gilbert is controlling this nicely and is looking to make no mistakes. Stevess is trying to wiggle out of this horrible position. Stevess flips to his side and attempts to get a leg in for half guard. Gilbert anticipates the leg and manages to get behind Stevess and secures both hooks! This could be bad! Gilbert slips an arm under Stevess chin and tries to position for a rear naked choke. Gilbert has worked the choke in now and it looks tight. Gilbert is squeezing on Stevess like an anaconda would it's prey. Stevess fails to tap and has fallen unconscious! We've got ourselves a winner by way of a rear naked choke!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:57 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (RNC). Phil Gilbert!
