PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a bantamweight MMA rules bout between Bob Jam (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Fjodor Sychev (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Jam comes to the cage accompanied by Transylvania. These two fighters really are very evenly matched on the feet - it will be fascinating to see who can assert themselves in that aspect of the fight.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the bantamweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 12 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Bob Jam!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 5 - 2 - 0, fighting out of St Petersburg, Fjodor Sychev!
The judges for this bout are Vladimir Khabensky, Ivan Kurochkin and Aleksei Zolotukhin.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sychev tries to clinch up.
Sychev ducks under a wild hook from Jam.
Sychev uses some good footwork to avoid the body shot by Jam.

Sychev shoots in looking for a single leg takedown. Jam is trying to defend but Sychev finishes it well and ends up in half guard. Let's see if he can advance position further.
Sychev lands a big shot. The thud that echoes around the arena is like music to the fans' ears.
Sychev passes the half guard and he's now in mount! Big trouble for Jam!
BOOM! Sychev connects with a massive shot to the dome!
Jam tries to lock up and control but Sychev gives him a forearm to the face and pushes him away.
Jam is trying to escape the mount.
Sychev connects with a couple of good shots from mount.

We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Sychev looking to finish Jam with some ground and pound. This is bad for Jam!
Jam is looking to improve his position but Sychev isn't that keen on the idea.

Sychev cracks Jam with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.
Jam is trying to get back to his feet but can't.
Jam throwing punches from his back but nothing is landing.
Sychev lands a big elbow.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Jam sneaks a leg back under and regains half guard and is working straight away to try and get back to guard. He hasn't managed just yet though.

Sychev decides to stand and escape the position.

Sychev drops down and drives through with a powerful takedown into guard.
Sychev lands a couple of digs.
Sychev stands up over Jam, holding his feet. He dives back in and lands a decent shot to the head.
Jam bucks up whilst keeping hold of a body lock, managing to reverse the position. Now he's in top in Sychev's guard.

That's two minutes gone in the round.

Jam got a little sloppy there for a moment and Sychev has worked his way into a loose triangle - can he finish it?! No, Jam has managed to get both his arms back between Sychev's legs - danger averted.
Sychev is a painfully thin specimen of a man. You do wonder whether a good body kick would snap him clean in two.
Sychev looking to control the pace of the fight rather than finish it.
Sychev utilising some decent striking defenses from the guard, preventing the ground and pound.
Both fighters really going for it on the ground here!
Jam with a flurry of punches that miss.
Jam wants to control from the top but Sychev keeps moving.

Jam with a couple of shots to the head there. Not particularly brutal.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Sychev manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Jam manages to get himself to full guard.

Jam scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Sychev looks frustrated there after his takedown attempt is stuffed easily.

That's three minutes gone in the round.
Sychev takes one to the side of the head.
Jam throws a sloppy body shot
and Sychev connects with a straight left hand counter down the middle.
Sychev fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Jam lunges in with an uppercut that skims his opponent's chin.
Jam moves into range and connects with a jab.


Sychev is rocked!
Sychev looks to land a body kick but Jam moved away.
Sychev is still on wobbly legs! Can Jam finish him?
Jam misses with a body shot.
Jam moves out of range as Sychev throws a body kick.
Sychev misses with a takedown attempt - Jam sprawls well and throws a nice strike on the way out which just misses.
Bob Jam has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Fjodor Sychev.
Jam steps in with a hook that catches Sychev right on the chin and knocks him to the floor! Jam follows him down with more strikes and that's all she wrote! Sychev looks absolutely devastated.

Ladies and gentlemen, after 3:58 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Bob Jam!
