Coming up we have a middleweight MMA rules bout between Kato Hong (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Red Vine (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Hong comes to the cage accompanied by Nunchucks. Man, I cannot wait for this one!

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the middleweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Kato Hong!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 2 - 2 - 0, fighting out of Los Angeles, Red Vine!

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Hong has a takedown stuffed.

Vine looks for a takedown. He's got it. We're now in half guard.
It looks like the ref is thinking about a standup.

Vine wants to work for an arm triangle but Hong is really keeping half guard well and defending the submission attempt.
Hong wants to control but Vine is keeping busy.
Hong wants to improve his position but Vine is controlling well.
Vine wants to stand but Hong has hold of a leg and an arm, so he's trapped for now.
Vine wants to free his trapped foot but Hong is holding on for dear life with his legs.

Hong tries to roll over but Vine keeps him under control.
Hong is controlling Vine's position as best he can from this difficult position.
Vine seems content to maintain position for now, rather than mounting any offense.

It looks like we're going to have a standup here. Neither fighter is doing enough on the ground.

Hong looking to score a takedown here. Vine is defending well but Hong drives through and ends up in Vine's guard.
Vine keeping moving, preventing Hong from controlling successfully.

Vine tries to land a sweep but no joy.
Hong trying to control but Vine is working from the bottom.
We may be looking at a referee standup if the pace doesn't pick up soon.

Kato Hong has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Hong shoots in for a takedown. "Ole!" shouts Vine as he jumps to the side.
Hong shoots in for a double leg but Vine sprawls well. That's going to sap some energy.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Kato Hong. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Hong throws a quick inside leg kick.
Hong shoots for a takedown but Vine saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.

Vine clinches up with Hong and pushes him back against the cage.
This has been an exciting period of action!
Hong is working for a takedown up against the cage. He can't get it on this occasion though.
Hong is breathing heavily.
Vine stalling here - the referee won't stand for too much of that.

Vine closes the distance and after a bit of a stuggle, scores a takedown into Hong's guard.
Hong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!

Hong throws his legs up looking for a submission but Vine uses it to pass to side control.
Vine lands a decent elbow from side control.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.
Vine tries to cartwheel into mount but he doesn't manage it.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

Red Vine dominated that round.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.



Hong gets caught napping as Vine dives in and scores a takedown. Hong manages to retain guard.
Hong looking to sweep here. No luck so far.
Hong pulls Vine in to control the position.
Hong not looking particularly offensive just at the moment.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Vine wants to pass the guard but Hong is keeping the position.
Vine in full guard, throwing the ground and pound. No damage this time.
Vine postures up.

Kato Hong has forced the referee to step in and bring the fight back to the feet.
Vine wants to clinch up but Hong keeps it at a distance.
Hong wants to clinch up but Vine keeps it at a distance.

Vine throws a looping left and ducks down for a takedown. He's got his arms around Hong's waist but Hong gets an underhook and avoids the takedown by throwing Vine off to one side.
Sloppy strikes from Vine. Those never looked like landing.
Hong tries to clinch but Vine moves out of range.
Hong looks to land a combination but Vine avoids it well.
A really sloppy takedown attempt there from Vine.

Hong scores a trip takedown into side control. Nice.
Both fighters are absolutely exhausted here.
Vine tries to buck Hong off but Hong is having none of it.
Vine is trying to control Hong's posture but Hong avoids it.

Hong decides to take the fight back to the feet.

Hong thuds a left hand into Vine's body.
Vine throws a sloppy head kick and Hong moves out of range easily.

Vine gets a clinch.
Wooooo! Give it up for these two warriors! They are putting on a show!

Vine lands a takedown into guard.
Vine really doesn't want to stay on the ground with Hong. If he can't get it back to his feet, it's only a matter of time before he'll be tapping out.
Vine postures up.
Vine trying to control but Hong is working from the bottom.
Hong is looking to stand up but Vine isn't so interested in that idea.
Vine would like to get this fight back to the feet but can't get free from the closed guard.

Hong is working the butterfly guard. He manages to land a nice scissor sweep and is now in half guard on the top. Nice move.
Hong seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vine does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Hong is really struggling to control Vine but he's trying to hold on to the position.
Vine is trying to stand back up but Hong is controlling him
The referee claps his hands together and tells the fighters to work.
Vine is looking for a sweep. Hong is wise to his cunning plan and keeps the top position.
Red Vine has got the better of the ground game so far.

Hong seems to be working for a kimura but Vine defends the submission attempt.
Hong tries to pass to full mount but Vine defends it.

Hong seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Vine does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.
Vine wants to get back to full guard.
Hong is looking to take a break and control but Vine is keeping him honest, looking to work from the bottom.
Vine is controlling Hong's position as best he can from this difficult position.

We're going to have a standup here because Kato Hong wasn't active enough for the referee's liking.
Nice sprawl there from Vine as Hong shoots in.
As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Hong looking for a guillotine here but Vine defends easily.

That was a close second round but I would say that Kato Hong will probably get the nod.
The referee calls time. The cornermen exit stage left and we're back to business. This is the final round!


Hong closes the distance but Vine moves to the side

and Vine holds on and brings the fighters into a clinch.
Hong fails to pull the fight into his guard.

Vine escapes the clinch and we're back to striking.
Hong fails with an attempt to clinch.
Hong slaps away a takedown attempt from Vine, before circling back to the center of the mat.

Vine feints and as Hong raises his hands in defense, Vine changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Hong trying to control the position.
Vine's corner is telling him to maintain position.
Vine pressing down on his opponent's thigh, looking to pass guard. Hong is keeping the position for now.

Vine looking to control the position here, rather than advance.
Vine takes a big intake of breath there - he's definitely tired.

Red Vine has forced the referee to step in and restart the fight on the feet.
Hong lands with a thumping leg kick.
Hong shoots in for a takedown - he's clinched up with Vine but Vine pushes him off and we're back to square one.
Vine shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Hong sprawls well. Hong wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Vine gets slowly back to his feet.
Hong throws a combination that misses
and Vine counters with a series of strikes. Hong will be more careful next time no doubt.

Hong shakes his hands off, looking to compose himself, but takes a jab to the jaw whilst he does it.

Vine fakes a strike and closes the distance, dragging Hong to the ground. Vine is now in Hong's guard.
Hong is working an open guard here, looking to improve his position. No doubt that will leave him open to counters but at least he's being more offensive.
Vine pushes down on Hong's leg and manages to get into half guard.
The crowd are loving this. Great action here.
Vine wants to lay and pray for a moment but Hong keeps working.
Hong wants to get back to full guard.

Hong wants to get back to his feet.
Vine is keen to just control but Hong is a slippery customer.
Vine takes a deep breath and rests his weight momentarily on top of his opponent, to control the position.

Hong slaps away a takedown attempt from Vine, before circling back to the center of the mat.
Hong fails with a takedown attempt.
Hong shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Vine sprawls well. Vine wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Hong gets slowly back to his feet.

Vine moves in looking to clinch but Hong pushes him off.
Hong misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.
Hong will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Vine throws a series of punches but Hong avoids them all with ease.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Hong tries to clinch up but Vine circles away and keeps his distance.
An inside leg kick lands from Hong.
Vine stuffs the takedown.

And that's the end of the fight!
Red Vine comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
I think Vine has won this one but let's see whether the judges agree with me. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
