0 - 1 - 0, fighting out of London, Edd Shem! The judges for this bout are Daniel Bishop, Richard Clark and Paul Tew.
The bell rings for round one and we are underway! Rex scores with a reasonable looking shot to the body. Shem doesn't seem bothered though. A nice combination there by Rex.
It looks like Edd Shem has been cut. Shem gets his takedown attempt stuffed easily and Rex counters with a driving takedown into guard. Nice work there by Rex. We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake. Rex seems content to control from guard here. He's going to have to remain active though if he doesn't want to get stood back up. The crowd cheering loudly, showing their appreciation for the quality fight we're seeing here. Rex pushes down on Shem's leg and manages to get into half guard. The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
That's one minute gone in the round. Rex content to sit in half guard and control for a moment. Shem should think about turning a few of those tyres round his middle into muscle if he wants people to take him seriously as an athlete. Rex's ground tactics aren't going to win him many fans. Let's hope he's got fireworks for us if he gets back to his feet because he's not doing much on the ground. Rex has hold of the far side arm. He's working for the Kimura, can Shem defend it? Rex steps over the head and cranks it - Shem is tapping out! That was textbook stuff right there - nice submission victory for Rex!
Ladies and gentlemen, after 1:39 of round 1, we have a winner by way of Submission (Kimura). Jonas Rex!
