PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a featherweight MMA rules bout between Shane Schofield (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Gabriel Fenili (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Schofield comes into the arena with Linkin Park : The Catalyst blaring out of the sound system. Gabriel Fenili will no doubt be trying to keep this one on the feet, where he has a distinct advantage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the featherweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.

And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.

The judges for this bout are Nard Betker, Saam Ante and Paulsen Ambrosius.

The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Fenili closes the distance and clinches up with Schofield, looking for a takedown. Fenili pushes Schofield against the cage but Schofield circles to the side and manages to break the clinch.
Schofield fails in his attempt to clinch.

Schofield closes the distance and scores a nice trip takedown into half guard. Fenili did well to prevent Schofield getting side control.

Schofield is looking for a kimura. It's going to be difficult to finish that from half guard though and Fenili defends it well.

Schofield is sneakily working for an arm triangle but Fenili sees it coming and defends easily.
Schofield wants to pass the guard but Fenili is defending well.

Fenili is looking to sinch up a guillotine here but Schofield pulls his head out easily.
Fenili moves into full guard.
Schofield wants to get up but he can't break Fenili's closed guard. He needs to be careful trying to break the legs open, as he's open to submissions here.
Schofield stands up and looks to throw the legs aside to pass to side control. Fenili swivels though and keeps the full guard.
Schofield wants to stand but Fenili is controlling his posture from full guard.

Fenili manages to land a sweep and now he's in mount on top!

Fenili is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Schofield can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
Schofield is looking to improve his position but Fenili isn't that keen on the idea.
Fenili manages to capitalize on a mistake by Schofield to take his back!

Fenili has his opponent's back and is working for the choke.
Fenili is hanging on to Schofield's back as he tries to escape.
The fans in attendance giving it up for the two fighters, who have really let it all hang out in the last minute or so!
Schofield really does look like a pencil wearing a pair of gloves. Let's hope he has a gameplan to suit that ridiculous body shape.

Fenili is looking cool and calm here, just waiting for a good opportunity to attack and finish the fight from this dominant position.
Fenili misses with an elbow to the head.
Schofield tries to escape the position.
Fenili is trying to stick to Schofield's back but Schofield is turning into Fenili. He's managed to reverse the position - now he's in Fenili's guard. Polite applause from the crowd in appreciation of some nice Jiu Jitsu by Schofield.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Schofield is breathing heavily.
Schofield is pushing down on Fenili's leg trying to pass to half guard. Fenili is fighting to maintain full guard but Schofield has managed to sneak the leg through.
Schofield works his foot free and advances to mount.

Schofield stands up from the dominant position, so we're back on the feet.
Fenili throws a quick head kick that skims the top of Schofield's head.
Fenili shoots for a takedown but Schofield saw that one coming a mile off and avoided it easily.
Schofield stuffs the takedown attempt from Fenili. Fenili gets slowly back to his feet.
Shane Schofield has stuffed three takedown attempts in the round now. That's going to take a lot out of Gabriel Fenili.

Schofield closes the distance and looks for a trip takedown... aaaand he's got it - Schofield lands in his opponent's guard.

Schofield drops back for a leg but he's not going to get it - he lets go and Fenili dives on top into guard.

A close round but Gabriel Fenili will probably get the nod.
That's the end of the interval. I'm sure that seemed a lot quicker than a minute for our two fighters! Back to the action.

Fenili shoots in for a takedown. He's persisting with it as Schofield sprawls well. Schofield wins this battle and keeps the fight standing. Fenili gets slowly back to his feet.
Shane Schofield is looking to throw some combinations by the looks of things.
Fenili throws a head kick that misses.
Fenili fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
Fenili lands a nice looking body kick.
Fenili misses with a half-hearted attempt at a head kick.

Schofield changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Fenili looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.

Fenili is pressing down on Schofield's thigh, looking to free his foot. Schofield is holding on for now.
Schofield is looking to regain full guard. Not this time though.

Fenili wants to take a breather but Schofield is having none of it.
The referee is pacing around the two fighters - he looks like he's thinking about a standup.

The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.
Schofield slips a leg in and gets back to half guard.
This is a great period of action - very entertaining stuff!
Fenili seems very keen to just sit and control from half guard but Schofield does not like that idea so much and is remaining active off his back.

Schofield tries to roll over but Fenili keeps him under control.

Fenili winds up and cracks Schofield with a swinging punch to the side of the head.

Fenili is working on the RNC. He looks like he's got it but Schofield won't tap... Oh, he's out! The ref rips Fenili off his unconscious opponent!
