PBP Commentary

Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Money Pakyaw (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Dan Jones (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). I'm sure you'll be fascinated to know that I was talking to some pointless Z list celebrity before the fight and he thought that Dan Jones was going to win. Let's see if he was right.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 2 rounds, in the lightweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 1 - 8 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Money Pakyaw!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 0 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Tokyo, Dan Jones!
The judges for this bout are Yuuki Gou, Shigeki Sano and Taro Takaoka.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Pakyaw with a lazy takedown attempt

and Jones counters with a shoot takedown into half guard.
If this pace continues, the referee will definitely step in and force a standup.
Jones is controlling the pace.

Jones gets to his feet - back to striking we go!
Pakyaw tries to clinch

and Jones moves into the clinch.

That's one minute gone in the round.
Pakyaw tries to pull guard but can't drag his opponent to the mat. Jones just stands there and leans against the cage.

Jones pulls guard.

Jones scrambles and gets back to his feet.
Pakyaw fails with a takedown attempt from distance.
That's three failed takedown attempts in the round for Money Pakyaw. That's going to take a lot out of him.
Pakyaw wants to clinch up but Jones keeps it at a distance.
Pakyaw shoots in for a takedown but doesn't get it.

Pakyaw gets taken down but at least he's managed to land in guard.
Pakyaw is breathing heavily.
Jones's corner is telling him to maintain position.
The ref warns both fighters not to hold the cage as they work up against the meshing.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Dan Jones was stalling too much, according to the referee.

Jones has managed to clinch.
We've seen a great period of action over the last minute or so - credit to both fighters for going all out!
Pakyaw letting Jones take a breather here.

Jones gets double underhooks and manages to take the fight to the ground.

Jones stands and steps away. Pakyaw gets to his feet too and we're back to the striking game.
Pakyaw shoots in but Jones avoids the takedown attempt easily.

Pakyaw is in a horrible position here. Jones smacks him with another shot as he tries to escape the position.

Jones cracks Pakyaw with a nasty head shot there - the crowd let out an audible gasp there, as the noise reverberated around the arena.

BOOM! Jones connects with a massive shot to the dome!

This has been an exciting period of action!

It looks like Jones might be adopting somewhat of a lay and pray gameplan here, which I'm sure won't go down too well with the paying fans in attendance... Or the ring announcers come to think of it.
Pakyaw knows he needs to get back to his feet asap. He's simply no match for Jones on the ground.

As the round comes to an end the crowd are showing their appreciation for a great round of action.

Jones tucks in and makes sure he doesn't lose the dominant position.
Jones is still in mount, landing shots to his trapped opponent. Pakyaw can't stay in a position like this for much longer.
And that’s the end of the round – the fighters go back to their corners.

The fighters get back to their feet, the hooter sounds and we're back to the action! This is the final round!



A momentary lapse in concentration from Pakyaw enables Jones to shoot in and score with a neat double leg. Pakyaw manages to secure a closed guard as the fighters hit the mat.

Jones tries for an arm triangle. That looks pretty tight to me. Is this one over!?! Possibly, maybe, no Jones has let go of the choke. Obviously it wasn't as tight as we thought!

Jones is looking for a kimura. He might have it! No, Pakyaw has escaped the position, nice work there.

Jones stands up and beckons Pakyaw to his feet.

Jones has closed the distance and engaged Pakyaw in a clinch.
Pakyaw tries a shoulder strike but it doesn't do any damage.

Jones has picked Pakyaw up - he's going for a ride! Jones dumps his opponent to the mat with a thud and settles into half guard.
Dan Jones has got the better of the ground game so far.
This has been an exciting period of action!

Jones decides to stand up and try his luck on the feet.
Nice sprawl there from Jones as Pakyaw shoots in.

Jones shoots in for a takedown and gets it.
Jones is nestled in close to Pakyaw, controlling him well. He's worked in a nice elbow to the side of the head as well, for good measure.
Pakyaw might be looking to lock onto one of his opponent's long limbs for a submission, whilst we're on the ground.

Jones is looking to pass the guard... He's managed it - he's now in full mount!

Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.

Pakyaw seems to have got his legs back now.

Dan Jones comfortably won the final round on my scorecard.
Well Jones has outworked and out performed his opponent in all aspects of the game today. He was simply too good and the decision should be no more than a formality. Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
