Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 3 rounds, in the heavyweight division.
Introducing the fighter to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 2 - 0 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Mark Sutter!
And introducing the fighter to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 1 - 1 - 0, fighting out of Sydney, Manuel Banuelos!
The judges for this bout are John Mangel, Damien Edna and Winston Howard.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
Sutter will need to tighten up his combinations if he doesn't want to gas himself out, swinging at thin air.
Banuelos tries to score a power double leg takedown but Sutter sees that one coming and sprawls well. That will dishearten Banuelos somewhat.
Sutter looks to score with a jab to the body but Banuelos is just out of range.
Sutter throws a head kick that misses.
Sutter is looking to take this fight into the clinch.
Banuelos fails to land the takedown.

Excellent takedown into side control there by Sutter.
Sutter remains in side control and seems content to stay there. It's a versatile position from which he can work both strikes and submissions, whilst maintaining that control, so maybe he'll sit here for a while.

A few boos can be heard. I'm sure they will multiply if the fighters don't pick up the pace.

The referee decides to stand the fighters back up, due to lack of activity on the part of Mark Sutter.

Sutter throws the overhand right but ducks down into a quick takedown attempt. Banuelos was covering up waiting for the punch and Sutter finishes the takedown easily into guard.
Banuelos manages to sweep nicely, so he's now on top. Sutter manages to get himself to full guard.
Sutter seems keen to control Banuelos's posture.

Banuelos throwing elbows and punches but not connecting, as Sutter works some decent striking defense from the bottom.

Well. There's a bit of a lull in the action here and the crowd are starting to get restless.

Banuelos can't escape the position.
The crowd applaud the fighters efforts here as the round comes to an end.
Banuelos is persisting with the attempt to improve his position.

Sutter changes levels and drives through with a really nice takedown into side control. Banuelos looks really pissed at himself for not defending that better.
Banuelos is trying to get back to half guard.

We could do with one of the fighters taking the initiative a bit more on the ground - they're both waiting to capitalize on a mistake.
Banuelos tries to bench press Sutter off him but Sutter keeps the position.

We've had a lack of effective grappling in the last minute or so, which could well see a referee standup.

The ref stands the fighters back up. Mark Sutter wasn't doing enough on the ground.
Sutter misses with a hook. Banuelos ducked under it nicely.

Sutter drives through with a really nice takedown into side control.
Banuelos tries to work a leg under to get back to half guard but Sutter wriggles his own leg back out and remains in side control.
Sutter is maintaining the dominant position - no doubt Banuelos will start to get frustrated soon if he's not already.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.

Banuelos fails to land with a series of punches.
Banuelos takes a body punch but keeps moving.

Sutter feints and as Banuelos raises his hands in defense, Sutter changes levels and drives through with a takedown into guard.
Sutter looking to control the position here, rather than advance.

Well Sutter has outscored his opponent in every aspect of the fight today. Only a scarily incompetent judge or two will keep him from a well deserved win... Over to the ring announcer for the scorecards.
