Coming up we have a lightweight MMA rules bout between Takanori Gomi (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class) and Bj Penn (ranked 0 p4p, 0 weight class). Chooooooooon! I think Gomi might be my favorite fighter, now he's come out to Scary. Both fighters look fresh as a daisy as they make their way towards the cage.

Ladies and gentlemen. This fight is 5 rounds, for the lightweight championship of the world!
Introducing the champion to my left, fighting out of the red corner.
With a record of 13 - 1 - 1, fighting out of Amsterdam, Takanori Gomi!
And introducing the challenger to my right, fighting out of the blue corner.
With a record of 24 - 15 - 0, fighting out of London, Bj Penn!
The judges for this bout are Sam Margolis, Richard Clark and Colin Fotheringham.




The bell rings for round one and we are underway!
A telegraphed right hand from Gomi misses the target.
Penn tests Gomi's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gomi bobs and weaves well there to avoid the strikes.
Gomi avoids the body shot from Penn.
A looping hook to the body misses from Penn. Gomi does a little dance to reset his feet.
Penn thows a body shot but no joy.
Some bone on bone action there as Penn checks a low kick. Luckily it wasn't a particularly hard one.

Penn drives through with a takedown into guard.
Penn with a flurry of punches that miss.
Gomi pulls Penn in close to prevent any damage.
Penn prevents Gomi from getting back to his feet.
The fighters are pressed up against the cage, both looking to find a bit of space to work.
Penn tries to free his leg and advance position but Gomi is retaining full guard.

That's one minute gone in the round.

Gomi uses the cage to get back to his feet.
Penn tries to land with a swinging hook to the body but Gomi was well out of range. Poor timing from Penn.
Gomi walks straight into a jab right on the nose. That one stung - he's blinking and trying to clear his head.
Gomi stuffs the takedown attempt from Penn. Penn gets slowly back to his feet.
Gomi thows a body shot but no joy.
Penn moves out of range of the body kick.
Gomi on the wrong end of a vicious looking body shot.
Penn swings away with a body shot that misses
and Penn takes a counter punch right on the button for his troubles.
A head kick misses from Gomi.
Penn misses with a looping right.

That's two minutes gone in the round.
Gomi tests Penn's chin there with a solid looking shot.
Gomi throws a leg kick but he was too far away and it doesn't land.
Penn misses with a takedown attempt
and Gomi counters with a three punch combination, finished off with a leg kick. Nice work.
Fantastic stuff here - a very entertaining period of action, which has drawn cheers from the crowd.
Gomi is looking to chop away at Penn's legs.
Gomi throws a hook to the body but it doesn't connect.
Penn thows a body shot but no joy.
Gomi connects with a hook to the side of his opponent's head.
Penn tries to move into range but Gomi moves to the side and lands with a nice right hand.


Penn is rocked!
Gomi drops Penn with a naaaaasty hook - Penn is in real trouble here! Gomi dives in to side control and pounds out his opponent for a TKO victory! The crowd goes nuts!

Ladies and gentlemen, after 2:48 of round 1, we have a winner by way of TKO (Strikes). Takanori Gomi!
